I've searched the site for details of the radio antenna, and i'm happy that it's in the boot lid. However I have noticed that there is a marked decline in reception quality when the roof is down.
Has anyone else noticed this.

Radio, never used it, have an iPod.
Flat aerials appear not to be as responsive as those mounted vertically.

I don't use FM radio much. Mostly CD's or Sirius radio...no problems there. Although, I have noticed that Sirius loses reception now and then..."linking"...don't know if its an antenna thing or a Sirius thing?

Noticed in the 'Loan' Eos at the weekend the reception was bad with the roof down. It was genaerally bad on all stations. Hopefully mine will be better at picking up stations when it arrives.

It's a Sirius thing. I lose reception the same spots with my Dodge Durango's Sirius radio as with my EOS' Sirius radio. Typically it's around overpasses, tall hills, and other structures that potentially block reception when Sirius goes belly up. Sad thing is my wife's truck, which has XM, gets fine reception in the Sirius deadzones.

Radio reception on mine is not noticeably different wherever the roof is. Can't really see why it should be?

As long as I drive locally the AM and FM works ok although the AM is not as good as my other vehicle. I don't use Sirius at all and tend to listen to cds or mp3s when on the road.

Was scanning through the stations. Perhaps the whole episode is only caused by the poor quality of Radio 2 in this area. The local Berkshire stns all seemed fine. As i've now disclosed myself as a TOG (Although i'm a young 45), I'll just have to listen to my IPod, with Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, early Genesis, Motorhead on it !!!!!!!!

Love our 2008 Komfort, but it has the worst AM radio reception since my old crystal set! This seems to be a SOP with VW and especially EOS. I am suspecting the truck lid antenna. Am wondering if anyone has come across any aftermarket or VW external antenna that can be gracefully added to this otherwise fantastic car. Have seen several VWs with small external antennas in Brasil (have seen no EOS in Brasil yet) , but none in US, so apparently VW has them for some models.
Dealer about as much help as my dog!

Always wondered where the pesky aerial was! lol what a donut I am!

I've never had issues with the reception, but prefer to listen to my ipod when the roof is down and blast out some "TUNAGE!!!" rather than blasting out adverts! lol

More on AM receiption

Thanks for the info "the antenna is fitted to the inside of the boot lid. There is also an antenna amplifier in the lid - this may be faulty."

I have checked the antenna connectors on radio, both (?) seem OK. One person at dealer said antenna was in trunk lid and another said it was the printing pattern on the windsheild.

Any advise on how to troubleshoot and check the antenna amp?

The darn AM (yeah I know its old fashioned, but like talk radio) has this strange gargelling sound now and then mostly on non-local but strong stations and sometimes on local station. This is about the weakest radio have ever had aside from old crystal set when was 10. Dealer nor VW America have much interest in checking or trying to resolve.
