RCD 300 and mp3

Anyone been able to read mp3 CDs with the RCD 300 ?

I've tried CD-R and CD-RW discs and it just comes up with a CD ERROR.

It plays CD-R audio CD discs fine.

The RCD300 does play mp3s, but only the more recent versions of it. In cars equip with an mp3 playing version, there is a section in the radio manual about the correct disc format.
The units that can play mp3s have 'mp3' printed just above the slot:
