Hi All,

Our replacement EOS has the MP3 function on it and I have been messing about with it.

Is it just me or is the display very slow in bringing up the track / folder name etc??

I have made a cd with 125ish MP3's in folders and it's a nightmare as you don't know what folder or track is what until you actually start listening to a song.

Anybody have any comments on this?

Sad to say my RCD500 6CD changer does not have mp3. When you upgrade from the standard single CD player you loose that feature. Looks like VW have started fitting units that now have it. Sorry to hear its so slow though. That doesnt seem right.

The best option is to create 6 folders and to put different types of music \ artists in each one as this makes navigation easier.
My EOS IndividuaL ( Sept 07) came with MP3 functionality.

Yep - that's what I've done but it is soooooo slow to tell you what the song or artist is.

I am also with the RCD 500 mp3 and I didn't see being slow.
What is the speed of burning your mp3 discs?I failed several discs because I was burning the on high speed and the RCD didn't recognize them. Then I burn the disc on the very low speed /4?/ and I don't have problems now:D

We get an RCD500 unit here(6CD/MP3 indash) and Mine takes a little while to spool up when the disk is put in or when you shut down the car and then restart it with the disk in. I record mine at 160-192 bps. I just figured this is normal with MP3s as cds appear to play ok.

Same problem, VW didn't think this one out. They should upgrade us, so that it actually works as advertised.

The operation of the radio is not VWs fault. They buy them from another company(ies). VW can only pass on the info and wait for update. It may be an annoyance to some. We just live with it. Once the info is displayed, the unit responds pretty much like playing an audio cd. For 09 they are putting a new series of radio and nav unit units in the Eos and the Tiguan. You could try to purchase one of them or go aftermarket. As long as the unit plays the mp3s, VW will consider the unit as functional and not defective and will likely not do anything.

Basic Radio with single CD/ mp3

I have the basic radio with the single cd slot which also takes disks filled with mp3s It works great. Takes a few seconds when the disk is first inserted but I can scroll quite quickly through the songs using the tuner knob or the radio scan feature. The new song number and artist / title scroll start as soon as the knob is turned to the next song. Obviously I don't have folders on the disk. Also - the speakers sounds great! :D
