I find it a little odd that the pass thru on the rear seat is a detachable part instead of a fold down. Does any body agree on that. Most cars you put it down and stays there, on the EOS you take it out and then what, where do you put it? What is the purpose of this part been a detachable part???

Just guessing, but...
I think the passthrough is bigger with the seat piece out of the way. I only used it once when skiing earlier this year and it was a tight fit. I think other passthroughs are "taller" which allows the seat part to fold down.
As to what to do with it, if you have two people in the rear, you can put it in the trunk.
News flash: You ain't going skiing with 4 people and their skis unless you have some kind of external ski carrier. I would be surprised if you can even get 2 pair of skis through the passthrough.
