I have set of 18" Chicago wheels, I am getting a rumble noise from the rear wheels which wasn't there before! is almost sounds as if there is something rubbing like a brake caliper or something. The garage said this was a know EOS defect!! Anybody else had this problem?

If youre only getting the noise from the rear o/s there's something not
right (Known EOS problem my ar...er I mean foot!)

My advice - check the tyre for stones/nails/screws etc. If nothing take it to the garage and insist they take the wheel off while you are there and check for any obstructions in the disc/pad area (or even wheel bearing play/lubrication)

I agree with SiJ2000- its a cop out!

I've had to have a rear bearing replaced on mine. It made a loud growling/whirring kind of sound.

Dealers have a special expression they get from the Dealers' Expressions Manual when they haven't got a clue what something is. "It's a normal Eos fault, sir. They all do that".

I've heard it form BL, Alfa and other dealers down the years.

It's complete claptrap of course.

Rear Tyre Noise

Had the same problem on my rear Chicago's, service engineer showed me that the Dunlop Sport tyres were both "miss-shapen" [warped] at about 30k miles and that was causing the noise. Had two new ones put on, noise gone. Dunlop deny manufacturing fault blaming VW suspension set up. 2nd oppinion from another mechanic said to rotate tyres on every service [ie about 10-13k miles] which I've done, and no further problems! I'm now on 48k miles........and rotated twice.

Agree, have at the tires rotated every service and am experiening even wear. It appears that if you don't, the suspension set=up will eat the inner part of the tires in the rear and the fron tires not only have to give the car traction, the outer portion of the tires will wear from cornering. Rotating the tires at every service will give you the best ride anf wear.

The occasional wheel alignment doesn't hurt either.
