My lovely Eos has done about 5,000 miles. When I tried to open the roof a couple of days ago it failed to open and on the small screen it said something along the lines "System fault - workshop" So I have booked it in to my local VW garage to have it checked. The problem persisted for a day but now I find it works fine. The appointment is not for a week or so. Has anyone had a similar experience? Do I need to take it in for a check?

This seems like a warranty issue to me. No one else here has reported anything like that to my knowledge.

Best of luck with hopefully a speedy repair

I have had messages like this from time to time but it's always been my fault - pressing the switch at an in appropriate time or not giving it thinking time after performing another function for instance. Faults don't have a habit of fixing themselves so if it's working properly now I would tend to think it was a 'false' message generated because it just wasn't quite ready to perform at that particular moment!

just to add on to this issue, i was on the convenience menu to adjust some of the settings when my wife use the button to off the roof, and the menu got 'stuck' at the light setting. i got frustrated by that but had to rush for a movie.

thereafter, i tried again and its ok. guess the EOS system cant multi-task? :D

You all crack me up...

anyhow...

I have had an issue with my roof stalling half way when opening. The sunroof opens, the trunk opens, then all I hear is the hydrolics humming and no movement anymore. I can close it, but that's it.

I finally had my wife do the roof while I stood outside and watched. I noticed that one of the side wings was getting caught on part of the fabric of the inside of the roof when the mechanism opens and the roof is about to move back. I just used a finget to push the wing out (very little pressure necessary) past the fabric and the convertible finished opening.

This is not something you can easily notice when you are in the car operating the roof yourself! I brought the car into the dealer and they readjusted some of the tensions of the wires and all is better. They said with about a year's use the wires will stretch somewhat (kind of like a bicycle's shifters) and they will need som restensioning. Took all of 10 minutes.

So if you think this may be happening then you may be in an easy fix. Everything has to open and close in a particular order so if one component doesn't complete fully then the system will stall.

Hope this helps some folks.

Window problem after closing the roof

Had the car for a just a week - Love it :D !

Here's the problem :
When closing the roof everything works as advertised, I get the "Roof Closed" message in the display, and hear the gong.
At this point the windows are all still lowered.

If I continue to hold the button in, the 4 windows will then all close as they should do, but sometimes the drivers window will then immediately open again to a position about 1/3 of the way down.
Sometimes it does this, and sometimes it doesn't, and I can't work out if it is something I am doing wrong, or if it is a fault

Before taking it to the dealer has anyone else had this issue and know what might be causing it ?

I have had the same thing coconut which got progressively worse! In the end i had to have a new motor put in the door as the window kept dropping and not going back up! I would definately take it to VW just in case. Good luck

Trish, maybe the window goes back to the position it was in, e.g. 1/3 of the way down, before you chose to close the roof. Check this idea out next time you close the roof.

There have been quite a few threads already over the last couple of years of similar things happening. I had it regularly with my passenger side window.

The windows come back down 1/3 of the way if they think they've hit an object (someone's hand, child's head etc) and this can be triggered just by the window not sitting in the seal properly when it reaches the top.

Have that checked out by your dealer and you might find the problem is as simple as that to solve.

Yea I would have to agree with it being a safety mechanism.. if the window senses something is in the way of the window closing the window will auto open so as not to casue injury. I have never had this with any of my cars but have had the exact thing happen to the volvo's we drive at work.. sometime the seals swell up from the moisture and heat and move slightly out the door frame so when you close the window, the window will not close all the way and the safety mechanise will do it's job and open the window again.. frustrating I know specially when it's raining..

Thats why I had a new motor installed. My window was completely dropping, sometimes even when the car was not in use. There was a few occasions when I returned to my car to find the window fully open! Usually when it was poring with rain too!

That's happened to me a couple of times too - both times when it was pouring with rain of course! Once in Hull city centre which is not the safest place to leave your car with a window down for the evening - but nothing was missing when I got back! Seems no-one noticed..

First got my eos may 2008. from day 1 the two back windows had the same problem: they wouldn't close all the way; they would almost reach the top then lower down as if something was in the way. Took it to the dealer - they said it had to do with some pressure setting of the windows. I haven't had a problem since. It was all covered under warrenty.

Here's the latest in what is turning into a bit of a saga !

Car has been to the dealer 3 times now for this :

1) Examined - no fault found - but still the same fault as soon as I tried it :(

2) Confirmed it is the safety "roll back" device operating - window position altered and the roll-back cured .... but caused a new problem of a really bad "squeak" for the last few mm of movement when window reaches top of travel - like a piece of gravel stuck in the channel

3) New channel and regulator assembly fitted - squeak cured but guess what... after getting the car back the first time I closed the roof and then the drivers window the safety device operated and the window rolled back

Now booked back in for visit No.4 to see if adjusting the window again will solve things once and for all !

this was one of the reasons why we rejected our eos. the problems started with the roof in that it got stuck half way, (the motor/hydraulics continued moving without any effect) – a system error displayed on the screen. the dealer said this was a major problem however stated it could be fixed. unfortunately problems still occurred in that times the roof at times would not go down, or it would get stuck half way or not go up when down – turned into quite a nightmare!!......fingers crossed my next eos will be fine!

if anyone else has similar problems - be careful, and note everything down.

mine eos was 56 (2006) plate.
there was an old thread re. this and other problems - but i guess it has been removed now.
