Not sure if anybody has been thinking the same as me, but the cloth floor mats in my car are showing their age. It's difficult to keep the inside looking clean with some tatty mats in the footwell.

I've gone with some rubber mats and I think they look quite dapper. I imagine they're also much easier to keep clean.

The only problem is I've tried to remove the OEM Mat fittings at they seem to be real stubborn. I thought they just screwed into the carpet. Anybody managed to remove theirs without leaving the carpet in tatters?

Only done the drivers at the front. I just pulled up the mount with a pair of pliers. It is just a push in mounting.

You can get mats from your dealer that say Eos on them, but it is a little more expensive.

I use my rubber ones for every day use. I've kept the carpet mats for special occasions. I ordered the rubber ones with the Eos. The carpet ones came as part of the individual pack in Oz.

You must be lucky or have a good dealer (still lucky). I haven't heard of anyone getting the signature rubber mats on the Eos without ordering before.

Rubber ones are better for cleaning ...perticualy fluids ...

however ... being struck by lightening in a open top car is no joke ... and the carpet matts would allow the current to pass though your feet ... the rubber would not .. :D

for some reason i have two sets ...delivered with the car ???;)

Whilst this was posted as a tongue-in-cheek comment, I think a more serious dicussion of lightning and open cars is warranted as it may concern some owners.

If my knowledge of Physics and Electrical Engineering from days long gone is still valid, this statement is not true - in the unlikely event that the car is struck by lightning, the electricity follows the path of least resistance. In this case it would be the steel car body rather than your own. The car body also acts as a Gaussian shield to protect whatever is contained wholly within it. Based on reports of boats hit by lightning in open water, there is usually some warning of an impending lightning strike by the presence of "St Elmo's Fire" which is an upward streamer of electrically charged air [plasma]. It is my understanding the death rate of occupants in boats hit by lightning is very low and an open car would be little different.

The high voltage insulation performance of a rubber floor mat would be as useful as tits on a bull in this situation. The rubber car tyres will provide far more insulation however the lightning charge will still have sufficient voltage to arc across to earth.

The biggest threat to occupants in an open car struck by lightning will be either a heart attack caused by the actual event or deafness from the associated thunder clap.

Back on topic, rubber car mats are essential to prevent soiling of carpets by the occupants IMHO.

My husband just came up with a great solution. He took the round plastic openings from the cloth mats and exchanged them for the ones on the new rubber mats. This eliminates having to pull up the fittings in the carpet. He so thinks out of the box. Just wanted to share for any future people doing internet research on this topic.

I'm on my second set of Monster Mats - first one wore out in 6 months! Not durable - but much easier to maintain than cornsilk carpets.

Have both, VW rubbert mats with EOS logo and VW carpet mats. Use Carpets during summer (when it is dry) and rubber mats during autumn and winter when it's wet and snowy.

Just made the change, carpet mats a paint to clean, drivers mat required many rounds with washing and rinsing.
