Hi

Purchased 2007 EOS this past August; (extended 2 yr warranty). Getting ready for my first winter here in Toronto. I will be purchasing a set of winter tires and rims (215/55/16) - previously arranged with my purchase.

A friend (BMW Owner) strongly recommended I consider "Rust Check". However my Dealer informs me if I get the vehicle Oil Sprayed it may null the warranty. I guess they want me to come back and purchase the rust proof package through them.

Can anyone validate this? I would appreciate it.

Also: finally purchased a Windscreen; enjoying some Fall Driving.
Cheers

The dealer is right - certain under-body coatings can cause accelerated corrosion instead of reducing corrosion and this is why most if not all manufacturers specifically exclude after-market under body treatments from their warranties. Whilst some after-market treaters offer their own warranty; their benefit is dubious given the propensity for firms in this industry to be "here today, gone tomorrow".

For any environments where salt is present such as living close to the sea or where salt is used for road de-icing; the best anti-corrosive measure is to regularly wash down the underside of the car to remove the salt residues. If these residues are not removed, they will cause accelerated corrosion due to "evaporation condensation" from repeated wetting and drying of the salt-laden moisture especially if the residues overlay stone chips which have penetrated to bare metal.

Very helpful much appreciated. Yes I would agree that "regular winter washing" is a MUST here in Toronto - we do use a lot of salt.

Another Question: Has anyone heard of Marangoni Winter Tires- I understand this is Pirelli cousin - they are being recommended by my sales person for my 2007 EOS?

Thanks again.
