I have read dozens of posts re. this subject and thought I had it solved with the entry about using the CAT/FLDRT button when in SAT radio to recognize the built in iPod connection in my 2007 (recently purchased) EOS. The iPod worked fine UNTIL I subscribed to SAT radio.

My VW people tell me either iPod or SAT so for now I am living with SAT. I bought a nice extension cord to get the iPod out of the small compartment so you could control it if I could get it to be recognized......

Has anyone really solved this problem.

I posted a thread with a review on a product that gives full control of the iPOD from the factory premium stereo buttons that works on the non-navigation stereo. I have it on my Eos and like it. It is a million times better than the VW OEM iPOD adapter kit.
