OK guys, my turn to pose a technical question! (as its not roof related!)

I don't think the passenger seatbelt warning is working... Perhaps its a problem with the sensor in the seat, so the car thinks no one is sitting there!

Perhaps it's not supposed to work, I really can't remember as I have a Golf plus, so maybe it worked in there and not the EOS...

When you start the engine with no passenger, how hard do you have to lean on the seat with your arm to make it think someone is sitting there, or does it only work with a real passenger... I am just curious to see if mine really isn't working!

Thanks

Mine goes off when I drive off and the passenger hasn't fastened the belt. I wouldn't want to try leaning on the seat hard whilst driving off :D Think I would try it with someone with you.

A few months ago I thought I had an intermittant problem with my seat belt warning, some times it would sound and sometimes it wouldn't.

I had a nasty feeling it could be related to my smarttop module.

Just as i had turned off the module and summoned the courage to front the dealer, It dawned on me that it always seemed to make noise when I had my laptop on the passenger seat, and not when I didn't.

The wiegth of a laptop would appear to be enough for the sensors in the seat to think someone sitting there and should be belted in. The laptop now travels on the flooor, and problem has gone away.

A handbag and my lunch makes my passenger seat belt warning go off............Ok I do like a large lunch!! But 4 pint milk bottle is enough too.

I can confirm that I don't get any warnings at all - either on drivers or passenger side. I wonder if this can be turned off by the dealer?

Doesn't bother me - but I am intrigued as to why I don't. I tend to stick my laptop on the passenger seat to, so as far as I'm concerned I'm pleased I don't have an annoying warning!

I tend to stick my laptop on the passenger seat

Based on the differing answers there must be a way of switching off the warning, I travel to work every weekday with my laptop bag (obviously includes the laptop but all the other paperwork, power leads etc) on the passanger seat and the warning never has gone off, but when my other half is in the passenger seat if she forgets to put the belt on, the warning does go off.

Trying to train myself to put the laptop bag on the floor, with the increasing better weather I am driving home with the top down more and more, don't want anyone whilst I am stopped at lights leaning in and stealing it.

As a technical person, I guess I have to come to the conclusion in my case that either it never did it (and im thinking of my golf +) or that the sensor in the belt buckle is jammed so the car thinks the belt is plugged in...

I assume that if there was a problem with the seat sensor, the heated seat wouldn't work and the airbag warning light would come on also...

As you said (nail-z-gull), I suspect that it may be programmed out if the above hypothesis isn't correct... I will take a look at the wiring at the weekend!

Hmm I've always had this sensor going off when someone is sitting there, however I'm a typical woman and carry everything excluding the kitchen sink in my hand bag and the sensor has never gone off when that is on the seat. Nor if I put my weekend bag, laptop and handbag all at the same time! Guess ur sensor must be broken Si....but at least you don't have that irritating beep beep beep of someone having forgotten to belt up everytime you are in a rush to pull away and just plonk your handbag on the passenger seat!

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise!

I checked all the wiring and all seems in order, so I guess it probably never worked or was disabled by the dealer during a service for some reason.

I have no reason to believe anyting is wrong with the car so, case closed!
