I recently found 2 compartments on the upper corners of the trunk behind the carpet flaps.

Does anyone know what the purpose of these compartments are for? It seems like they could be used for storage.

Don't know, saw those when I had my panels out for wiring. There was a couple of caps that covered the roof pump inlets, left overs from when the car was built

Don't put anything there!
The only thing to be stored in that space is the roof side members when top is down.

Absolutely!!! Look in there when the roof is down, the space is full of roof hinges. It's also where water can slop in from the fish tanks into and over the roof controller wiring and connectors when you accelerate and hit the brakes (search)

We have a 2009. What is a fish tank? Never heard that before.
