Got the call this evening from the dealer SHE IS HERE. I am now worse than a kid on Christmas eve, how am I going to wait a month before picking her up, especially now the sun has decided to make an appearence. Have spoken to the dealer about putting a current reg plate on, but he is really against the idea, says it will take 2 weeks to turn the car around (cant for the life of me understand that one) by which point it will only be another 2 weeks until the new registration, yeah I know all very sensible and maybe logical if its not your Eos sat there waiting. :)

Denny,

Are you sure that your dealer isn't just saying that as your plate going on the car straight away may save him the registration fee? I'm not sure myself but would definitely ask the question...

He is telling me that it will take 2 weeks to turn the car around, it doesnt seem right to me, as I have read lots of forum members who have waited a few days for this to happen. He is really really keen for me to hold off for the new reg saying that I will regret taking the car early in the long run.
Im really in a lather over it now, I knew that it would sit in the dealership for a few weeks, but now its actually there Im not so sure plan a was such a good idea.

btw, schoolhousefred is very quiet, hope hes ok!

My dealer told me if i take the private reg off my current car and put it on retention, then i can just take the retention document to them beforhand and in the 1st sept, rather than registering it with a new number issued by DVLA they can just use my private reg. Apparently they do the registration process on line so i assume there must be a way of attaching a private plate at the time so it goes straight on the V5. Sounds a bit ominus to me. As all cars with private plates still have their original number in the background on file then the car would still have to be issued with this new random plate number first i would say.

You'll get it just in time for Autumn then...
It does NOT take 2 weeks to turn a car around - 2 days more like. Sounds to me like you're interfering with his holiday plans... The dealer will have to do as you tell him, not you do what he tells you!

You have to decide what value you place on the 'latest' registration. The twice a year change was meant to end all that nonsense but obviously it only partially works. For your info according to Glass's guide the value of a '56' plate Eos over an '06' one is an extra £700, so you have to decide if a month's Eos driving in the middle of summer is worth that £700 extra which you will lose when you come to sell the car. Of course if you intend to keep it for a long time it will make virtually no difference to its value (after say 5 or 6 years).

And another thing - the registration fee is the same whether it's paid in August or September so it's not for those reasons the dealer wants to wait. Maybe he only has to pay for the car when it's registered so wants that to be as late as possible... On the other hand dealers usually want to move cars in August to get a bit of cash-flow as EVERYONE wants to wait until September!

When I say 2 days turnaround that's for normal registrations. As you seem to be putting your own plate on the dealer could indeed be right as some LVLOs take 2 weeks to 'inspect' the donor car! If that is the case for you then to take the car in the middle of August would seem to be a bit of a daft thing to do. So maybe I have to eat my words and concede that your dealer might be right... the ignominy of it!

The LVLO only inspect the donor if the plate is going onto retention - have changed ours several times and the only time they wanted to know about the donor car was when the A2 was written off!

The dealer’s insistence could be down to the number of cars sold by the dealership. Most dealerships work on a bonus scheme from the maker worked out on the number of units sold. If the dealership has reached its target then it is in their interest to have your car registered next month to help with the new figures.

Only a suggestion as like most here can't see why the dealer would tell you about a two week turn around. If it was to do with the cherished registration then I'm sure he would have said so.

Show Your Stuff, Denny

I can't believe your dealer's "cockamammy" excuses. I understand your weather there is finally perfect ..... it's time to be a little insistent. There's has got to be some way he can expedite matters and get you the car for the weekend. I'd lend you mine, but it's a long drive to get it there! (Besides, I've lent it to the VW dealer for a parade!) Good luck!

Yes, quite right.
I did mean to include in my post that usually they are desperate to sell cars in the month before the plate change as no-one wants any and they have targets to reach. However, as you suggest, maybe the target for August is low due to experience so they want the car into the September figures to help them make their bonus.
