In the last month and a half, our beloved EOS has come under attack. First, some idiots decided to reverse into the back of us whilst the car was parked at a railway station. They broke one of the reversing sensors and of course did not leave any details. Then the nearside mirror got smashed 3 weeks later. And 2 weeks after that, a ground compactor fell of a van and hit our beloved car. BUT as the car is currently being repaired, I am having 'an affair' with my courtesy car. I know my current EOS has given me 3 whole years of pleasure, stability and thrill but the lease is coming to an end and I need a younger 'more able' model. So what do I have as a courtesy car I hear you say? No, it is not the new BMW Z4 out this month in the UK nor is the new Audi A5 cabriolet. It is the 2.0L Turbo FSI with the DSG transmission. I remember talking to SiJ2000 at one of the Walford meet about his car and how much he preferred it. I have never been a big fan of automatic but now I understand what the fuss is about. It is SIMPLY AWESOME. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still love my manual gear box and every now and then I can feel my left foot wanting to touch the break pedal. But I must confess that the experience I am currently having with the courtesy car is an eye opener. For those of you considering buying an EOS and wondering whether the DSG is worth the extra expense, I am sure our members will be delighted to share their thoughts. And as for me, DSG transmission, I salute you!!! :D

Rest assured that there's nothing that you are doing wrong. I too normally end up with a Polo when the car is in for a service. It is just that as it was a non fault accident, I have used a company called 'Accident Exchange' who supplies a like for like courtesy vehicle and then charge the other party's insurance company. They have been very efficient so far and no, I don't work for them before someone asks.

As you say Tintin, you are telling us DSG owners nothing that we don't already know ! I have always had manuals but the wife persuaded me to try the DSG as she refused to drive anything other than an auto on the assumption that she would actually get to drive MY EOS. One 10 mile test drive and I was convinced - she has actually got to drive the car twice since I got it 18 months ago!!!
Sorry to hear about your accidents but perhaps it was for the best?

Absolutely Gary. And also great news as I have just been told by the garage that my car won't be ready until later on today so I can keep the DSG babe until tomorrow morning. Yeepie!!!! ;) :) :D

The sport option is costing me a small fortune on petrol though (but I am having a lot of fun so I am happy). What would be nicer is a bit more sunshine perhaps?

What would be preferable Tintin is no rain!!!!! You don't actually need the sun to enjoy an EOS just no rain!

True although the sun would obviously be the cherry on the cake. :)

Sadly I took the courtesy car back on Saturday so no more DSG for now. But when I saw how shiny my car was again, my heart beat increased and I was rather happy to have it back and treated myself for a full tank of petrol (how sad). The thing with driving a DSG for a week is you get into a bad habit of not doing anything with the pedals coming up to a round-about, which is probably why I nearly stalled my car several times on the way home as I forgot I had a manual gear box. Doh!

Holds it in gear longer, good for quick acceleration but not fuel consumption
