The smart top module is not a VW part. I got mine from www.mods4cars.com, they were very efficient and the module is brilliant. Does require a bit of work removing boot lining to fit but there is an excellent on line fitting guide available on the website if you want to look before you buy. The company is based in the US.

Yep got mine from mods4cars.com as well. Make sure you have all the tools they list, including a set of torx screwdrivers. Be prepared for it to take longer to GET to the installation spot (removing the trunk carpet) than it takes to do the actual install. Watch out for the luggage area sensor (take it slow pulling the carpet up). Make sure the two power tap cables are fitted snuggly. It was a two man job (I had my wife help me) at first but in hindsight I think one person could do it fairly easily.

The unit works just as advertised, I'm quite happy with the investment.

Feel a bit wicked but had a scream last night. My in-laws came round for tea and I showed my mother in law my new voice activated roof controller. Got her to stand near the car and say 'roof open' and operated the roof with the smart top using the key fob in my pocket. She was amazed until the wife let the cat out of the bag then I was chased down the street. Went to bed last night still laughing but will probably suffer for it later.

I'd love to install one but am SO crap at anything like this I'd be too scared to be honest.

Am I right in thinking the controller is the one which also lowers the wing mirrors when reversing so you don't rim your wheels?

Yes, it will lower the passenger mirror, allow you to flip the direction of the top lever (so you can push it to put the top up and pull it to put it down), allows you to single touch raise and lower windows by the "all windows" switch (boo on VW for not doing this), plus a host of other little nice touches. Well worth the money. Next time though, I'd pay an extra $100 for a local car audio installer to put the thing in for me.

I agree that even without using the remote feature, this add on is worth the money. I did order mine from mods4cars but found a local installer who had installed these previously but never on an Eos. We struck a deal and we installed it together for $40.00.

I purchased the SmartTop recently for a very reasonable price from a guy who had installed it in his Eos only three weeks before it was rear-ended at a stop light and badly damaged. Very nice guy--he even met up with me and installed it in my Eos and refused payment for the service.

Sometimes in this life you meet a good person, I mean truly good, if you're fortunate.
