The wheels need a bit of TLC now that I've clocked up a couple of hundred miles. I knew the Solitudes would be tricky as there's not much room to get in between the spokes. And they've been Permaguarded so any water just runs off.

Any tips on what to use to wipe away the road grime and brake dust? Do I use the Wheel Cleaner in the Permaguard maintenance kit? Has anyone come across a suitable implement to reach into the narrrowest gaps near the hub?

So many questions...

I think you should use the wheel cleaner... To get into the tight bits, you can use Cotton Buts (Q-Tips)... You will get through quite a few of them though, or they will fall apart and leave cotton lint on your wheels! (although that will easily wash off)...

I am getting my Permagard this week, so will have more info after that...

Are you pleased with the permagard? How do you now clean the car and get rid of water drip marks?? I use ICE Synthetic Detailer, but I guess I shouldn't once the permagard is done!

Hi Simon

Too soon to tell on Permaguard but it's looking good so far. It probably has more of a visual impact on the dark colours but it does give the surface a smooth feel.

I have to leave the car outside and it has been getting covered in dew lately. I wipe the water off, gently, with a clean shammy and that seems to work. The ocassional bird dropping wipes off easily too (tip: never let them dry out). The Permaguard stops any permanent bonding to the paint - a definite plus-point round here!

I have solitudes and use a 'Meguiars' wheel cleaning brush from halfords. Its quite a big head with fluffy ends to the bristles. Gets in all the cracks around the wheels. I am not the most fastidious cleaner though my once a week wash with Jofs (see ebay) turbo wax/wash, takes around 30 mins. Once a month she gets a polish with Jofs classic. She looks great though in black if you dont look too closely (and hey who would bother to do that?)

Permaguard

Please excuse my ignorance but what is 'Permaguard'?

I use Autoglym alloy wheel cleaner, warm water and a sponge, and it takes longer to do the wheels than the rest of the car.

Cheers, Simon

I have a Tesco car wheel brush (something like £1.99)

Works wonders on the narrow gaps on the Le Mans wheels.

Most imortant thing with alloys is to remember to clean the back as well as the front, on both company cars the corrosion has run under the paint from the back side of the wheel. But then the Honda does not get washed very often, in fact don't think I have washed it since August (around 5k miles ago).

The Eos wheels are still perfect as were the wheels on the A2 when it got written off!
