Huh, I thought every Eos had that.

We use it for our garage door opener. (Our opener is ancient, and we can't program the Eos with the right frequency for some reason.)

It's also just the right size for a sunglasses case. :)

I put my ipod in it when I get out of my car. Think there is something loose on the latch though as it opens itself while I am driving and I often find it open when I go to get out of my car! Doesn't get in the way though so that's ok :D

I wanted to install one in mine, but I read somewhere on this forum that they are not standard on US models because of some US required safety equipment that would prevent installation.

Interesting.

I wonder what the difference is 'behind the dash' for the LHD and RHD cars?

I saw the post on that as well, but... while I was having interior protective coating ("Finishing Touch") applied by dealer, I had a Chevy Cobalt Sedan (dealer uses Enterprise, and only pays for the lowest, $25 a day rental :( ), and it had one! Made me say Hmmmm....

US version has a steel bar behind the plastic trim panel that gets replaced with the panel with the cubby, part of what VW did to meet the US front crash saftey standards to prevent knee injury in a front end crash. That is why VW does not offer the cubby in the USA models.

You have to cut the steel bar out to install the panel with the cubby in a US or Canada Eos. Not a trivial upgrade but could be done. Totally voids VW USA's responsibility for driver lower body injuries in a front end crash if you make this un-sanctioned change to your Eos.

That said, if it were that big a saftey plus then VW would have in their rest of world models not just the USA and Canada ones.
