I have a 2008 Eos (8000km) and am intrigued by several "Bling" noises (similar sound to that in an jet aircraft when someone calls the cabin crew) that come from the EOS control system whilst driving. It can happen when at normal cruise speed, or when at rest or in between. I thought it might have something to do with the Turbo. I have not been able to find a pattern. I have also asked my local dealer who as usual doesn't know.

Could be that the system has a warning set to tell you when you have exceeded a certain speed. That is to stop you getting speeding tickets. It can be re-set to a different speed or cancelled altogether via the standard computer using the RH stalk.

Unless it's something else?

It could also be the temperature warning, mine dings when the temperature drops below 39 degrees F. to warn that things could start getting slick. Also can be disabled.

Steve

But not so likely looking at his location!
You get the noise when any other warning light comes on for any reason, e.g. low tyre pressure or door open. Can't think what else it could be however.

I agree that when ever a dash warning light comes on you will get the 'bing' noise, often it also displays a message in the MFD if you have the full MFD display in your version of Eos.

Maybe she is just lonely and wants attention :)
Seriously though do you have a NAV system? Could it be the NAV system trying to tell you that you have gone off coarse?
Just a thought.

Thanks Guys for your suggestions.
There are no warning lights or readouts when this happens.
Temperatures here on the Gold Coast rarely go above 32 degrees C.
The sound does not occur at any regular RPM level.
It occurs at all different speeds including occaisionally soon after coming to rest. Sometimes when speed is being varied.
I get the sound intermittantly, sometimes once or twice on a 15km trip sometimes not at all.
The car is running perfectly.

Another small issue
After washing my car, usually late afternoon on a Friday the roof creaks rather badly. The next day the creaks are gone.
Obviously moisture is causing the problem and it dries out overnight.
When washing the car, after the iniyial drying off I will half open the roof and wipe all of the seals etc but this does not seem to help.
I noticed on this thread that some of you use a rubber compond.
If this is recommended what product can I buy in Australia?
Thanks you all again.

The product is called Krytox GPL105 in liquid form - this is easier to apply than the grease equivalent.

An Australian supplier of Krytox is detailed in a thread on the Australian VWwatercooled website - use the link below for their details. The link also contains a remedy for removing excess Krytox from the bodywork/glass:

The MFD doesn't tell you anything after the "ping"?
Do you have access to a VAG-COM? If there are oddball codes being thrown that don't show up on the MFD a VAG-COM might tell you
