Its for the warning triangle which is standard in some contries but not in others.

You could use it to store your umbrella though

The size of the space is really annoying though. For one reason or another, I have three warning triangles none of which fit in this space......grrrr

Umbrella !!!

I was just told by my garage who delivered my new car that it was for a warning triangle. I cant believe VW are so tight fisted that they expect you to go out and buy a warning triangle. If I'd known before the delivery I would have insisted the dealer included one in the sale especially as they are a legal requirement in most of Europe
