Sunroof shade upholstery

It looks a bit trashed from your photos? The thin plastic backing is damaged and will show light through. If you really do mean the sliding sun shade, that's a big expensive and complicated repair because it has to be removed from the roof guide rails.

If you mean the interior head lining, each front corner has a plastic location clip that clips to the side but at the same time the entire front rear edge has to be fitted into the thin slot of a plastic 'hoop' running across the roof which holds the liner under tension. If the plastic hoop or side clips are damaged, there are no individual parts sold. The V.W price for a replacement head lining is over 1KÂŁ.

Do you know how much it was? When I removed my shade I notice the important part was the side edges because they slide in a channel gap and furl up at the back. They had turned over a hem along each side which they just glued, the glue works loose and the exposed sides then fray as it's pulled through the narrow gap. I re-glued their hem and hand sewed it afterwards.

Thanks. The shade is about $650 and todays labor would make it about $1600+ total? Expensive for a piece of cloth on a plastic frame! I had a good look at their material. The thin plastic light proof backing can be made from black cling wrap. The fabric itself is strange because it's stretchy like the head lining. I would think custom shops would sell that?

i think it just bakes since there is no real insulation from the roof.
Others have reported the same problem. Think what the U.V could do to your head without it. I had the inside of my sunroof glass tinted with a light gray reflective film which helps reduce heat and U.V.

If that's the butyl ruber sound deadening, I've already added it to the door skins, inside the ABS cover over the roof pump and the steel panel. :)

Adding reflective tint to the inside of the sunroof increases the glass temperature. Mine hasn't expoded yet and I'm careful not to aim the aircon face vents at it in hot weather, although they always want to roll upwards and start in the high level position. I must put a pin in them sometime to restrict their movement.

It definitely works if you go around covering several places, I might add some to the floor pan and wheel arches to reduce tire noise, although most of the noise seems to come through open windows.
