Took our EOS to the dealer today (although not the supplying dealer) to have a few things looked at.

You will see from my list below that one or two of the items are issues, some are requests and others are just questions:

  1. The reverse parking sensors were too quiet - these have now been turned up from 70% to 100% although I am yet to test them.
  2. Cracking noise coming from passenger door tweeter - they said they had a good listen to this but cannot do anything about it as it didn't make the noise for them. In reality I do not think they listened to it at all as the CD was in the exact same place when I got the car back as to when I took it in.
  3. What does Conv Mode do? If you look on the convenience menu, there is an option to set Conv Mode to All, Driver or Off. I have tried all of these settings and can't see it making any changes to anything. The handbook says its something to do with the windows being open or closed when you unlock the car.
  4. The windows do not raise after you drop the convertible roof, but they do raise when you put the roof up. Is this normal behaviour?
  5. Global Closure. I am told the dealer can set this so that when you hold the unlock button down, the windows drop and the sunroof opens and vice versa when holding the lock button down. The dealer said that this is already set to on but is not working. They have therefore sent off a technical request to VW.
  6. Dynaudio being rather quiet in the back of the car. They said that this is normal behaviour.
  7. Xenon headlamps too low. When driving at night, the lights do not appear to be lighting the road very far in front of the car. I know they are self levelling but at what I guess is their highest level they appear much too low. The dealer says these were almost on the legal limit but have wound them up a smidgin.
  8. Folding Mirrors when turning off the ignition. I understand that this can be set by the dealer so that the mirrors fold in when you switch off and fold back out again when you turn the car back on. This is aside from using the rotary switch on the drivers door. They said that this cannot be done on the EOS. Does anybody know otherwise?

Well there you have it. From all of these items, only the Xenon levelling and the Reverse Parking sensors have been attended to, and I am yet to test both of these.

If anybody has experience of any of the points, I would appreciate your feedback.

Cheers

Gavin,
Bearing in mind that I have a U.S. spec model, the following may help.

Conv Mode...when you press the unlock button on the remote, if the mode is set to "all", driver and passenger window will drop an inch or so.

When I raise the top and keep holding the lever in the up position, once the roof, etc., closes, my windows roll up also.

I wasn't aware of global closure...I have to check that out. Can I assume that you are holding the unlock button on the remote?

Again, my car is U.S. spec.

Well, in an update to my list, and having met up with Davetherave tonight, I can now confirm the following:

4) The windows are meant to raise after the top is dropped. Seems funny how the dealer told me categorically that this is NOT the case! Shows what they know!

What is it with these VW dealers when it comes to the Eos? its the same old story cropping up in lots of different threads on the forum and its not just the UK dealers that are lacking in product knowledge it seems its a worldwide problem.
Imagine where we would be without the forum we have some real fountains of knowledge on here, who always come across as more than happy to be of help, and thats a lot more than can be said about many dealers. Is it really a case of you have your car we have our money so long till your due a service?

Any dealer with some product knowledge is an exceptionally rare beast indeed. Most dealers have the same interest in cars that a shop salesman might have in Cornflakes...

Hi Gavin,

I've looked everywhere for the folding mirror option and not found anything, so I guess the dealer could be right on this one.

If you keep the roof switch pressed after the chime and the warning light going off, the windows should roll back up after a second or so.

Hope that helps.

You are right there, more interested in telling you what you want to hear. However when I do come across a salesperson with above average product knowledge I tend to use that person.

Surely the trade could only improve if they insisted that all staff had an above average knowledge of the product that they are selling. After all it is the sale of these items that pays their wages.

Dealer Experience with EOS

For what it's worth, I think one of the key reasons why the VW dealers are not more knowledgeable is because they aren't able to sell many (limited supply) and don't keep the ones they have very long! In my case, with a good dealer, he has sold 4 EOS' in the past 10 months (his total quota) but probably sells 30 new VW's per month. So ... his salesman and the owner/sales manager get little opportunity to "play" with the cars and learn about them in detail. As a result, they have focussed their product knowledge on making sure they have one service person who is an "expert". He has attended a number of training sessions and keeps abreast of all service bulletins. From my point of view, as an owner, I would rather see the expertize in after sales service than in the person who sold me the car! Hopefully, as supply and demand both increase, then we will see more expertize in all areas. In the meantime, it is kind of nice to own an "exclusive car"!

Anyway, Gavin, I hope all your problems are little ones, and that they are quickly sorted out!

Cheers!

Very well put and you do give a good reason for the lack of knowledge. I also agree that aftersales persons would be better suited to know the in's and out's of the Eos. Even one per dealership would be an improvement.

The best solution would probably be to have someone off of this forum working in each VW dealership!

Not to defend salespeople since mine was not terribly knowledgeable about the Eos, but you must remember that most of us on these types of forums are analytical car buyers, and most of us are already more in tune with the vehicle before we buy them than most salespeople would ever be. This is probably true for almost any type of car salesman. That being said, many of the questions you asked are available for answer within the manual. For a fairly simple layout, VWs have a TON of hidden features and benefits that reading a manual can really answer.

Relating to number 2 it may be that your fuel line is rattling not your speaker, have the dealer check this and add insulation to the fuel line. It can sound like it is coming from your glove box.

Relating to number 3, convenience mode relates to using the actual key in the lock vs the keyless entry. If you put your key in the lock and unlock the door and HOLD it, if you have the ALL command set, all of your windows will roll down. If you have it set to DRIVER only your drivers window will roll down. If you have all your windows down, or if your pinch protection causes the passenger window or drivers window to drop when you shut the door, then putting your key in the lock and locking it and HOLDING it down will cause all of the windows to roll up.

4. When you lower the roof the windows roll down, the roof lowers and the windows then roll up. If you are paying attention to the MFD (Multifunction Display) it will say when the roof is open and you can stop then and not have the windows roll up. If you continue to hold the lever the windows will roll up.
If this is not the case there may be a problem, but you can always roll up all the windows with the all windows window control on your window console.

5. You can have the dealer make the change to have the sunroof open or close. By default the sunroof is disabled due to the fact that a lot of people accidentally push the button while running out in the rain and cause their sunroof to open. They found more people complaining about this than liking the feature being enabled so they disabled it, but the dealer can fix this by hooking into your vehicle's computer and enabling it.

8. As far as I know the parking feature for the folding mirrors is not possible, other than by putting on one of those remote folding roof modifications, that VW hates. Mods4cars has a roof module as well as LCT. I have heard horror stories about LCT, and good things about Mods4cars modules, but both allow you to lower the roof while moving, a feature that will cause VW to void your warranty. I believe they include the folding mirror feature, but I may be incorrect, it may just cause the passenger mirror to move up and down as you are parking so you can see the curb/parking lines.

I hope this helped.

Thanks for your long reply. I have now realised some of the answers as I am on about page 60 of the manual.

Re number 2, I did see the posting on VWVortex but the sound is definitely coming from the speaker.

Re Number 4, the windows are definitely not coming up after lowering the roof, unless of course you use the switch on the drivers door

Re Number 5, the global opening/closure is not working at all, even though the dealer has set it to on.

Re Number 8, I fully agree, I would never use such a mod.
