Today I pulled up to a traffic light that just went red. Since I knew I was looking at maybe 2 minutes plus, I decided to put the top up since I was going to a movie and would have had to put the top up anyway. I started it up to the point where the top was raising out of the trunk.

About this time, some jerk pulls up tight on my rear. I released pressure on the brake pedal to creep forward a coupe of feet at maybe 1/2 MPH. As soon as the car started to move, the top quit moving and I felt a jerk. I immediately add brake pressure to stop the move. I probably only moved about 2 feet if that. As soon as I was full stopped I reversed the process and then waited until I could park before putting the top back up (with no problem.)

I could have swore I saw something here to the effect that the top can be put up or down at less than 5 MPH (which I was no where near).

I'm never going to touch the up/down switch again unless the parking brake is engaged.

Mine is set not to operate if the speed is greater than zero mph, come up and says speed to fast. Done the same at lights myself and found a similar situation.

+1. I tried this morning at the supermarket at like 1/4mph and I still got the 'Speed too high' message.

Been caught in rain and the roof won't go up when moving, done the same thing as you at lights but had to drive with it half up/half down for about 2 mins looking like a right doughnut before I could pull over!! :D

It can indeed, but in my technical opinion, someone would have to be insane to do that unless they were on something as smooth as an ice rink! Any changes in surface or g forces could damage the roof. It is a very weak mechanism when it is in motion. It is only strong when fully open or fully closed!

Worse than that I got caught on the motorway in a cloud burst, had to pull over and that 30sec time for the roof to close seemed like an eternity. Every thing was completely soaked. A lesson to me that you should only use the sun roof if there is a strong possibility of rain and you are motorway driving.

I have SmartTop module and have it set to operate top at 7 MPH speed or less. That avoids the issue discussed in this thread. With Smart top set this way the top still continues its operation even if the car rolls a little.

Probably the way to go, but a little on the expensive side for me for the limited times I would use it. However, I would think the SmartTop could be fun when standing back and watching a crowd be amazed at the Eos opening up without anyone in it.

Then, cue the cool cat that appears out of nowhere to side into the drivers seat. I hope the SmartTop has a security setting that ONLY operates with your key.

I'm pretty sure most othe CC's have this as standard. why VW don't do it as well is a mystery.
