Question - Is there any mechanical reason why the default storage when the car is garaged should be with the top up? Security or dust considerations aside - is it better for the car to just rest the way it drove into the garage whether it is top up or down? Just wondering with respect to pressure in the hydraulic cylinders or relax on the seals or? I tend to leave it in the position it was in when I arrived home and then the next time out I adjust it for the conditions. In the end I am thinking this causes less wear and tear on the lift/ stow mechanism. I know some always put the top up, but it seems to me that unless security is a concern this leads to more cycles on the mechanisms. Thoughts?

It would obvously cause less wear and tear, but I have a 4 year lease and a 4 year warranty, so I'm not too concerned.
More concerned, over time, with dust because I have the cornsilk interior.

I don't think it matters whether the top is up or down if the car is parked in your own garage. If you live in a warm climate, you would probably have the top down more and would probably leave that way in your garage. If you are concerned about anything falling into your car such as dust or water from a roof leak, you could buy a car cover. In the long run I doubt there would be any extra stress on the roof or its mechanisms. The seals would not be compressed which could aid their longevity and leak resistance.

Top down in garage...

I've been leaving my top down in the garage to save on the wear and tear of up/down. I did a safety check with an outside observer to make sure everything is clear while operating the top in the garage. A word of warning to anyone how hasn't read the manual and tries the top operation in a garage.

Make sure that you have room behind the car as the rear trunk/boot cover swings back behind the car during the roof up/down operation. Since I drive straight in to my garage, the garage door is right behind the Eos. If I didn't pull far enough ahead, the rear trunk/boot cover would hit the garage door during the operation. Just to be totally safe, I raise the garage door before staring a roof operation.

I drive home with the top down, stays down in the garage, I drive to work the next morning top down. Less wear and tear on the roof mechanism. Although at work I park under cover, I have to put the top up due to airborne dust and dirt

I don't know about the US models, but my Eos won't let me operate the top if there is insufficient space to the rear - I have tried it and get an error message (soemthing like "rear obstruction").

Rear parking sensors are not fitted to all U.S. cars.

Yeah, my '08 Lux does that. It detected my wife standing behind the car when I was trying to show it to the in-laws. Sat there pushing the button, feeling like Clark W. Griswald with his extension cord in-hand.
I eventually stopped staring at the blinking icon on the tach and read the display...

As for the up/down question, my drive is too long and narrow between house and fence to routinely use the garage, so I'm always top up in the driveway entrance. Leaving it down does seem like it would help the seals stay firmer.
