eos 4 me...

I found this for you... http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeropost?cmd=tshow&id=2866304

Have a read of it. At the top it refers to "Bike Rack for Eos"
It seems it will not be as easy as you would think, but there does seem to be a solution for it.

The physics of the vehicle do mean your choices are pretty limited I guess.
There is always the back seat ;)

Hope it helps a little.

Cheers & all the best,
David, Sydney, Australia

I am still trying to work how to transport my road bike,
Have asked dealer if a tow bar can be fitted ,the answer was no.
Anyone know if it can be done

Believe there is an Eos towbar which is an official VW part?
Anyone correct me on that?

David - I dont understand this though....how can the roof mechanism operate without any interference if your bike is using this, with a rack - or one of the swing out racks?
You mean you are using this tow bar for things other than a bike rack, right?

I don't have a bike rack, I use it for towing my boat and a small trailer, (not at the same time though) You can't drop the roof with a trailer in place. Have to drop the roof first then connect the trailer.
cheers, David

Has anyone in Aust located a company (apart from a VW dealer) that can fit a towbar (for a bike rack)? I rang 2 dealers today and got quoted $1000 to $1600 (!!!!!) for installation, wiring loom and the towbar itself. Rang 2 towbar specialist and they say no (didn't even know what a Eos was until I explained...... )

In the USA there is a after market hitch kit made by Curt manufacturing, with 1.25 inch receiver. It is a class 1 hitch, good for carrying 100 pounds dead weight or for towing 1000 pounds rolling weight. The hitch is made so that the only thing that shows is the receiver, the rest is hidden above and behind the bumper guard. I paid about $150 and self installed in about 1.5 hours. It bolts on to the car structure in 4 places on either side of the spare tire well. It requires no modifications to the car except to slightly bend the soft aluminum heat shield that surrounds the gas tank.

I have a bike rack that mounts under a hitch ball I use. You have to pull a pin, and fold the bar down and back away from the trunk before opening or closing the top. These types of racks were originally made for SUVs with lift gates so you could open the lift gate without taking the bike rack off.

If you google search Curt Hitch Volkswagen Eos you will find several sites that sell them in the USA. The fold down hitch mount bike racks are widely available.

If you have something like U-Haul in Aussie Land then you may be able to get this there - U haul dealers in the USA sell and install these sort of hitches at reasonable prices.

On the other hand...

Eos is too elegant for a tow bar.
I recently had a Prius that had a 1 1/4" receiver hitch and very hard to see unless you looked directly at it. All that was in sight was the opening which mounted flush with the bottom of the bumper without the rack installed. If these hitches are designed to use existing bolts to attach to the frame, I'm might get one myself as it's the best way to take a couple of bikes along. Most of these bike racks include a pin that allows they to tilt back about 45 degrees which may be enough to even drop or raise the top without removing the bikes.

A bonus is that it servers as a tail skid if you get into a situation where the rear bottoms out (steep driveway, etc.)

If anyone has attached one of these hitches, do they line up with existing bolts/holes?
