This weekend I went to VW for my state inspection sticker. While there I asked about any needed recall/updates. The service advisor had a print out that said my car needed the OS3 update. I asked what it was and he said I really wouldn't notice anything except that afterward I wouldn't have the gear number showing on my display anymore. Well, that was fine b/c I have NEVER had the gear number showing (but have read other threads that addressed this so I knew what he was referring to).

Anyway, now I notice that when the trip computer calculates my average MPG (not just the instantaneous MPG...the average) it is based only on my current drive. For example, before the update that just occurred, the trip computer would display the MPG basically for that TANK OF GAS (or until I held OK and reset the whole thing). Now it basically goes to ---- every time I start the car and I get mpg only for that particular drive.

Anyone have any thoughts???

Mine has trip 1 and trip 2, trip one retetting after the car has been idle for more than 2 hours and trip 2 resetting after 99.99 hours.

Each of them retains average fuel economy, distance travelled, time since last reset, average speed for its respective setting.

I toggle between them when on any of the above screens using the OK button on the steering wheel.

I had a similar software update but have not noticed what you are speaking about but then I have not looked that closely.
One thing I think has changed is the power output. I'm sure that at 50mph my RPM was 2k since the update it indicates 1.8k at the same speed. Anyone else noticed this or is it my imagination?

I hate to say it, but it must be imagination.

A software update couldn't change gearbox ratios.

The only possible thing to explain it is that that you were in 5th previously at 50 mph, and now you are in 6th.

You are exactly right, Geoffa1! I just tried out what you said and learned something new. Thanks for solving my "problem"! I love this Club!:D

The newer software has trip 1 and 2. You can cycle back and forth with a quick tap of reset button at the bottom of the wiper lever. On both trip views you can cycle through trip time or total time on view 2, Average MGP, live feed MPG, miles to empty, ext.
1. Is current trip. It will keep the information as long as you are driving, and will reset after the vehicle is turned off for longer than two hours.
2. Is always recording and adjusting to current with the past calculated in with the new. It will remain until you push and hold the reset button.
Hope this helps.
