Hi All

This might seem like a stupid question. My Eos is a company car and we are taking it to France at the weekend for a week's holiday. The documentation I have from the lease company says that the car may need to go to the garage for the lights adjusting for driving on the Continent. Does anyone know if this is the case? What do others do? Do you use stick-on light deflectors?

Thanks.

Spare light bulbs

Hi
Advice from a French (me):
French regulation asks you save spare light bulbs (even if you have xeon on your EOS, like me...) inside the car at all times. Triangle and first aid kit are NOT MANDATORY (they are, together with a yellow reflective safety jacket) must haves in Italy and Spain...). I have no clue what the 'deflector' thing is about...
cheers

Halfords sell the stick on deflectors and thats all I,ve ever done in the past, dont forget you also need to carry spare lamps, reflective traingle and first aid kit in france. Have fun :)

I do the same with the headlights, but you'll probably not find a packet with the right shapes for Eoses.

You'll just have to stick the bits on and stand back and decide for yourself whether you've covered up the bits that might blind oncoming traffic.

If the spare Xenon bulbs are too expensive just to carry as spares then suggest you just take ordinary bulbs and that would fool most gendarmes. If they start to ask awkward questions in French you'll have to stall them with awful schooboy French that you can make sure they have no chance of understanding and hope they give up eventually...

My understanding is that for the autoroutes you need a hi-viz jacket/tabard for every person in the car. You also have to have it on whenever you are out of the car so they need to be stored INSIDE the car, have seen a link to the French law on Honest John - will see if I can find it again.

As for masking the headlights the kit will show where to put the stickers for the golf - just put them in thesame place. I buy a set for each new car for the locations and then use black masking tape - works fine for 2 weeks and has never come off. Just don't trim it with a knife as the headlamp lenses are plastic.

I drive in europe.

I have a UK registered Eos but live in germany (British Army). We have to fit LHD lights to our cars for the duration of our tour (this includes rear fogs). My Eos is currently fitted with LHD lights but when I return to the UK I have never had anyone flash and have even asked friends (yes I have some) to drive by and say if my lights are high or blinding. They informed me of no problems, however I do move the lights down 1 click on the adjuster when I visit the UK. Moral of this is don't get to concerned about the pedestrian light flick especially for only 1 week. If you are after a set of LHD lights mine will be for sale soon when my Eos is replace in 2 months.

PS Have a safe trip and be careful of left turns, they are the most dangerous.
PPS Xenons have a flick changeover switch.

Xenons have a flick changeover switch? I wish I'd known that before plastering my light covers with bits of tape!

Where is it?

I don't have the exact info for the Eos as the Eoses on my Camp have all got normal lights rather than Xenons, however the people with BMW's, Range Rover's etc have the garage do something and hey presto the light flick goes from the left to the right. So speak to those 'orrible people at VW (try and get a free coffee while you're waiting!!!).
Hope this helps RgdS Paj
