As some of you know, the 3.2L EOS doesn't have a turbo and i was wondering if anyone else had put a after market turbo on it.

If so, was it worth it?

There aren't alot of mods for the 3.2 like there is for the 2.0. The big thing is the DSG trans has a horsepower/torque limit( I don't remember if its 300HP or 300 ft lbs. of torque) . VW wasn't offering it on the 3.6 or any engine above it. And as we all know the six speed manual is not available in the US on the 3.2L Eos.

Aren't all Bugatti Veyrons fitted with DSG?! Must be a variant of it...

You may well be right N. In theory if modified properly a DSG should work with any engine. For some reason, maybe cost, VW just hasn't expanded its use, yet.

Look on VWvortex.com at the DSG Area Posts there are many who have done Stage 2 or even Stage 3 performance upgrades on VW cars with DSG transmission and most of the reports are good although there are some issues with rough shifting that many people report.

There is also a 3.2 Area to give you some ideas. You may want to try exhaust changes intake changes and performance chip before deciding to invest in a turbo upgrade.

Although what you say may be true, VW still does not offer DSG in the Passat even with the 2.0 engine. Apparently VW doesn't feel it may be heavy duty enough for use in a heavier car. There have been no long term studies as to the durability of DSG tied to a higher output 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder at 300 hp or 300ft lbs of torque. If the DSG fails in these types of vehicles during the warranty period the question to be asked is whether VW will repair these under warranty? You will hear people refer to the Moss-Magnuson Act but under this instance where the engine is modified beyond what the trans was designed for it may not apply. So any major mods are to be done at you own risk. Besides on an Eos the more power under the hood the harder it gets to keep the front wheels from breaking loose. For that you really need an all wheel drive system.

cb391, I don't think the reason for VW not including the DSG in the Passat has anything to do with it being too light duty for the extra weight of the Passat. In fact, the Eos weighs MORE than the Passat; Eos = 3569 Lbs / Passat = 3334 Lbs. Quite possible, VW wanted to only offer the DSG in Eos for marketing purposes...who knows, It VW!!!

You are correct about the control issue of spinning the wheels with additional power. I have the 2.0T with the 93 performance chip (252 Hp, 303 LbFt). At quick starts, the tires turn over in several gears...however, it does offer exceptionally improved passing power on the highway.

They may not offer it in the Passat in case people may want to tow. I also wonder if gross vehicle weight on a Passat is higher. They offer DSG on the Jetta and Golf (I think). There are also power limits on the DSG. While having improved mid speed acceleration maybe good, it would be nice to have that ability from a stop as well.I would think it could be a bit of a handful if you are driving on snow. I have heard some people have had an improvement in fuel mileage as well if driven conservatively.

cb, you are correct...good control on the accelerator is necessary from a stopped position..not too difficult though. Also, I have the option, through the use of my cruise control stick, to convert back and forth from original program to enhanced program. You are also correct that fuel mileage has improved (so long as I drive conservatively). The main reason I chose to get the upgraded chip was for passing ability on the highway - I do a lot of driving for business and, when necessary, it's important to be able to pass confidently and quickly. Having said that, it will take about 2-years to pay back the upgrade...taking into account the improved gas mileage.

cb, good point on the gross vehicle weights. Eos = 4462# / Passat = 4488#. Pretty close though...That explains why the Passat performs as well as the Eos within the same engine classification.

Hi Dean,
the Passat is available with DSG with the 3.2 & 4motion in the UK.
Above 250ps they use the tiptronic auto box as does Audi in the A6 & A8.
