Does the Eos Individual have problems with tyre wear. My Eos 15mths old mileage 11500 both front tyres just changed and back tyres inner 25% bald on both so also need changing. Careful driver not aggressive - haven't had this problen on other VW cars. Had wheel alignment checked one wheel slightly out but according to VW garage still under specifications so not the cause.

Tyre wear is a difficult topic to advise on as it always depends on a large number of factors which may or may not be involved in each individual case. These are not listed in any order of importance:
  • Brand of tyre
  • Type of tyre
  • Type of rubber compound used -soft for maximum grip, hard for maximum mileage.
  • Type of road surface
  • Ambient temperature range
  • Predominantly wet or dry road surfaces
  • Design of vehicle suspension
  • Alignment/adjustment of vehicle suspension
  • Average speed of vehicle
  • Use of brakes by driver
  • Driving style and skills of regular drivers
Given your comments about being a careful. non-aggressive driver and if you live in a location where wet-weather adhesion is important, it is possible your vehicle may have been fitted with soft compound tyres which do not give good tyre wear especially if there has been a lot of dry weather. I suggest you contact the national distributor in your country for the brand of tyre fitted to your car, give them the details moulded on the sidewall and ask what mileage you can expect from these tyres.

It has been a common problem in the past for imported vehicles coming into Australia especially from Europe/North Asia to be fitted with European spec tyres as standard which are too soft for our climate and road conditions. These tyres have worn out within 10,000 miles/15,000 kilometres even for very careful and moderate drivers especially during summer.

My partner's Eos was delivered with an intermediate compound tyre which I expect will give around 25,000/30,000 kilometres before requiring replacement.

Just had this issue on my rear tyres where the inner 20% of the tyre on both sides was extremely worn. Had to replace both and a alignment was recommended.

I was told (not by VW) that the alignment needs checking after a few thousand miles on new cars due to the car settling from the initial settings when the car has left the factory.

Would recommend that you find a wheel alignment specialist that can adjust the camber. There is a very competent one in Slough.
When my Eos was checked the rear camber was a reasonable amount out of alignment - checked car when new.
Checking the tracking is not sufficient as the rear of the Eos has auto camber adjust when cornering.

If someone has the rear alignment specifications on file, please post these for the benefit of other owners as this is useful information that their local wheel alignment specialist may not have.
