Hi. I'd quite like one of the under seat storage drawers. Anyone know a site to get it from in the UK?
I've got seats with a powered lumbar support in leather, so I believe it would be ok to retro fit one.

Hello Again,

I bought one from oempl.us in the United States. But, I'm pretty sure they bring them in from Europe. I have been very happy with mine, and it colour cordinates perfectly with my interior. Here is their web site. I have found them very cooperative. You could probably contact them through their web site to find a source closer to home. http://oempl.us/
Good luck!

Thanks, I've sent them an email.
First I tried my local VW dealer and they started talking about having to remove the seats first to fit it. Then he said I may need to drill holes for the mounting points and rivet other bits in. He then says I would need to disconnect the battery for a least 1 hour to prevent the seat airbags deploying.
I mentioned the 'kit' available in the US. He poo-pooed this idea and said US and UK cars are very different and he doubted fitting such a drawer would be a simple task.
Is this all dealer BS?

I am not sure, but it sounds like 90% BS to me. I do know:
1. It will not work on an electric seat (insufficient room) My car has electric seat on driver side only so I installed on passenger side.
2. Yes, you do need to remove seat cushion, and use drill to secure compartment under seat. As a matter of fact, I bought kit from oempl.us and my dealer was more than happy to install it for me. I'm not a wizard at those things, so better in my case to pay him 40 minutes labour!
Again, good luck!

Hi Roberta!
Thanks very much. I may be faster, but you are definitely better organized! Any news on your baby?
No news since I was told port arrival would be November 2. My dealer said it could take 2 weeks to get to them (or less if they connected with the right person to put a rush on my car. Somehow I am sure such a favor will go to someone higher up on their VIP customer list -- my car can't be the only one on the boat, after all!:) ) My "dealer prep" list includes some extras -- window tint, Permaplate, pedal covers, Krytox treatment, so extra days will be added to the delivery. I will be lucky to see it by Thanksgiving! If that happened I would be thankful!:)

To SHF, I'm having to thank you quite a lot today :)
So Rich from oempl.us replied to my email. Apparently the drawers come from their depot in Germany and he's put me in touch with his partner there. I'll try to get one from them and then a try to find a VW dealer in the UK with a little more in between their ears than the last bloke I spoke to for installation.

Hi Again Roberta!
It looks like you have a lot to happen before your car is ready! It could end up being your Christmas present to yourself! One major consolation .. it's still top down weather regardless of the month! Have patience!

Under Seat Storage

Hi
I fitted the under seat drawers some time ago and find then very usefully, not that big but will hold your digital camera or portable sat nav unit and a the most important thing, Your Sun Cream.
You can only fit the drawers to non electric seats as the seat motors get in the way, they are easily fitted and I got them from my local VW Dealer where I purchased the car (Verve Wishaw) so any VW dealer in the UK worth there salt can supply them.
The cost is about £72.00 for the drawers and frames, and as they are fitted under the seats they are covered by the cars microwave alarm when you leave the top down.
It's probably one of the most usefully accessory I have fitted to the car.
Hope this information helps.

Hi Bill. Thanks for that. My dealer is very substandard. I'm going to print off your message and present it to my dealer. Did the £72 include the fitting? Would you have any sort of official document or invoice about the work you could photograph or scan and send me electronically?

Also Bill, if I was going to contact your VW dealer to ask them details, would it be the parts department I would need to speak to?

Under Seat Drawers

Hi DHAIDER

No the price quoted is just for the parts and not the fitting, but they are easy to fit.
If you check my previous letters, I had given another member all the part numbers that you require, so when you contact your VW dealer Parts Dept it will help.

Thanks Bill. I found the post. For anyone else interested here's a re-post of Bill's post with all the part numbers:

The part numbers shown are for the BLACK drawers and runners.
VIKO 882 602 J8 2V N/STK DRAWER
VIKO 882 601 J8 2V N/STK DRAWER
VIKO 882 600 B9 B9 N/STK FRAME
VIKO 882 599 B9 B9 N/STK FRAME
you will also require the small fixing screws:VN 909 998 01 N/STK SCREW should be in a packet of 10.you will require eight of them.
I also purchased the two small brackets for the rear of the frames,
VIKO 881 547/8 A BRACKET but did not fit them, couldn't see the need.
You will require an 11m star spline socket to unscrew the seat fixings and a small torque screwdriver a T20, just tilt the seat back and screw in the four small screws through the drawer frames into the pre-drilled holes on the seat pan.
Do not disconnect the wire multi plug under the seat, the cable is long enough to allow the seat to be tilted back.

My VW dealer is not very useful.
Firstly he thinks they will have to fit them. He says the seats must be removed or the airbags will go off. Next thing he says is it will take their mechanics 2.5 hours per seat to fit the drawers, at £78 per hour, coming to £390 just for fitting alone, plus the £80 for the drawers!!!!!!!!!!!

I said I'd just buy the parts and do it myself. He starts to get the parts lists and uses the same product number for both drawers and both frames. So he says the frames and drawers are the same for both sides (driver & passenger). My research says otherwise. Can anyone clarify?
Also, do the holes predrilled on the bottom of the seats already have nuts built in to them so the screws will catch? This bloke says they may not. Again can anyone clarify.

I wish I could find a local dealer that would just fit them and not take 5 hours about it, or at the very least sell me the right parts without the earache.
Anyone know a good dealer in the North West of England???

Under Seat Drawers

Hi Again
I can confirm that the N/S and the O/S drawers and frames are different and have different part numbers, they are shaped to fit the seat frames.
The seats are pre drilled and the fixing screw's just screw in, just do not over tighten them as the seat floor pan is quite thin, all the fixing screws are the same except the outside one which is a philips head self tapper.
As for the fitting of the frames, as I advised before there is no need to disconnect the wires going to the seat, as the seats will tip back enough when you remove the fixing bolts that holds them to the floor, this will allow you to locate the holes and screw in the small screws to hold the drawer frame to the under side of the seat.
It took me about two hour all in from start to finish to do both sides and I had no fitting instructions other than a print out of the parts, which my dealer kindly gave me.
I purchased my 10M splined tool for £4,50 in a Glasgow tool store, you don't require an expensive one as you are only likely to use it the once.

Seat Bolts

Do I definitely need an 11m spline bit as they are not widely for sale from what I see on google. M10 and M12 are easily available, but I wouldn't want to buy if they wouldn't fit.
Cheapest I can find for an M11 is here: (£43)
http://www.chrometrader.co.uk/ViewP...me=5PC LONG REACH SPLINE BIT SET 1/2 01614000
At nearly £400 to have my dealer fit them, this is still a good option.
Sorry dhaider I gave the wrong size for the seat anchor bolts,
it's 10M not 11M.

Thanks again Bill T. Just clarify, if you don't mind..

Did you get all the screws from your dealer? One of your previous posts quotes VN 909 998 01 N/STK as the screws to use. At that time you mentioned 8 are required. In your last post you mentioned 6 screws of one type I think and also 2 self tapping philips screws. Do you happen to know both part numbers?

Thanks. David.

1. A 10M (rather than 11M) is ok for the job?

Hi Dave
Yes It' a 10M splined tool thats required, I have just doubled checked it on my seats, and the drawer frame mounting screws come from the VW dealer in a small packet of ten, and you will require 6, three in each drawer frame and two self tappers for the outside mountings, one o/s and one n/s. I think I gave the part numbers for the small torq head screws before, I also purchased two small metal brackets for the rear of the drawer frames, but did not fit them as the drawers are held tightly enough with the screws. May be thats what your dealer was meaning when he said the seat would have to be drilled in order to fit these brackets?. but as I have used mine for some months now and are full to the brim with bits and bobs they have been working fine, these tiny brackets in my view are bother that there worth.
Remember the part numbers given are for the BLACK drawers, if your trim is a light colour you will require a different part number.
