Hi everbody,

I have just upgraded my Sat Nav system from the 'old' MFD2 to the latest MFD3 (RNS510). Awesome piece of kit.
Built in Hard Disc, 3D mapping, TMC in the UK, plays DVD's and MP3 discs.

Simple plug and play swap:)

Makes my OEM iPod install redundant now that I can see the track details in the MFD and on the Sat Nav unit:)

Could we have some pictures please (especially with the iPond track names on).

Sounds great.

Happy musical motoring.

Hello, This is my first posting on this forum.

I too will be doing this upgrade later this week. I will also be adding a multifunction steering wheel, cruise and bluetooth to the car in due course.

I run the www.comand.co.uk website and am already well versed in upgrading Mercedes cars. Looking to expand into VW's once i've sorted out my EOS with the above ;)

I'm also an authorised Teleatlas reseller so getting disks is easy:rolleyes:

Looking forward to many modifications to the EOS......

Currently the car is a metallic black 2.0TDI DSG Sport with black leather, 18" wheels.

Firstly, a BIG Helloooooo ALFIE and hope you enjoy your stay on the website :)

Secondly, best of luck with your upgrade... not that you'd need it as you seem a pro in this area of work

But love to hear how it works out and any tips and tricks that you would recommend would be appreciated for other members thinking of completing DIY upgade :)

Bluetooth with this?

Does this model happen to have Bluetooth built-in? I seem to recall seeing that somewhere. I'm considering upgrading (May have to do it through Dealer... haven't seen any available otherwise in US), but need to see if I will still need to do the Parrot Bluetooth system.

Thanks!

Hi Gary,

No Bluetooth built in, but you can get the VW Blue tooth unit which does plug straight in. Very expensive compared to what you can get int he marketplace.

Hi,

Yes you can load music onto the hard disc in much the same way as you do on a PC. I use an SD card, transfer music from the PC at home, insert into the RNS510 and then I can listen to it directly from the SD card, copy it to the hard disc, or even copy and listen at the same time.

Regards,

Garmin 360 does it

I just use my Garmin Nuvi 360 which sits nicely just forward of the transmission. Has Nav, SD card input (for MP3s) and aux out to the aux in jack in the arm rest. All portable and for about $400.00 us. Didn't want built in nav, etc.

2008 Eos Lux with Dynaudio which is awesome!

No Bluetooth no IPod Adapter..

I have the stock SatNav .. MFD3 (RNS510). It came with the cd changer which I don't use (all ipod).

It doesn't have bluetooth or an IPod adapter.

VW said there isn't one I can buy??

A 3rd party car audio shop fitted a Kenwood unit that did work but I hated it. And put the stock unit back in.

Can VW fit a bluetooth kit that works with the wheel (bonus if it displays address book on screen)?? or do I have to go 3rd party? If so, what do you recommend? Someone told me Parrot does one (but does the address but appear on the RNS510 screen)?? And what would the model number be??

Similarly;

Can I not buy a proper Ipod adapter (not the mp3 socket), but the one that is ipod shaped and supports track name etc.??

I would prefer not to go 3rd party.

It is really frustrating!!!!!

Can anybody help???

Heap big thanks,

Danni.

Ipod and Bluetooth for RNS 510

You can connect an Ipod up to the touchscreen, using the new MDI adaptor, which fits in the armrest on the EOS instead of the CD changer.

I fitted one to my car, which I bought from Germany (Kufatec).

Here is the Kufatec kit and the plug and play harness.

I had to change the plastic shell of the armrest for one that had a bigger slot in it to let the MDI adaptor fit inside (it was only £25 from my VW dealer). I also had to buy the cable to connect the Ipod to the MDI interface, because the Kufatec kit only comes with a USB connector.

Here are the part numbers

5N0 035 341 A - MDI interface w/USB cable
000 051 446C - Cable for IPOD

1K0 863 323L 71N - Grey Plastic Armrest shell to house CD changer

Harness is plug and play into the back of the RNS 510, with just one easy cable to route along the side of the transmission tunnel into the underside of the MDI adaptor. Then it all fits back into the armrest slot.

You have to have version A or higher of the RNS 510 for the MDI to work (the older ones don't support the MDI device and can't be upgraded). Also, you should make sure you upgrade RNS 510 firmware to the latest version 1020 as there are a number of annoying bugs when using the MDI with older firmware

When it is installed, you can fully control the ipod from the touchscreen

And artist and songtitle info are also displayed on the multifunction display between the speedo and the tacho. It fully integrates with the multifunction steering wheel on the Eos.

I am thinking about installing this Bluetooth kit, which also gives full touchscreen control through the RNS 510 screen.

Fiscon RNS 510 Navi-line Bluetooth plug and play adaptor for VW Eos.

I have heard good reports of it in the EOS.

Just a quick question regarding maps for the RNS510...

Am I right in saying that you can use TomTom (6 or 7?) or iGo 8 maps on it?

My main convern with in-dash sat nav units is updating the maps on them.
