I goofed the other day and left my headlight switch in the fog light position (instead of Auto as I usually do). I was surprised that the center lights (closest to the grille) and tail lights as well as dash lights remained ON instead of turning off. I'm wondering if there are any VagCom settings that can be tweaked to get the lights to turn off automatically even if I leave the switch in this position.

I just did this today, it makes no sense the lights dont turn off after a given amount of time when key is removed and car is locked

I wonder if turning on the "coming home" function in the Central Electronics module (byte 0 bit 7) would do this for you. The MkV VAG-COM tip sheet I read says it turns off all lights after a set time, which presumably would include fogs. However, if you read the description of the Euro switch with leaving home/coming home that ECS Tuning sells, it only mentions interior lighting. Guess it can't hurt to try...

I have the coming home set on mine (accessible without Vag-Com by using the convenience menu in the Lux) and it still doesn't turn off the lights if the switch is left in the fog position.

I have and have owned several other VWs and they are all the same, when you have the Headlight Switch in the "on" position rather than the "auto" position the parking lights stay on with the key off. No way to change this even with VAG-COM. You do get that annoying sound when you open the door reminding you that your lights are on for what that is worth.

Guess neh321's solution is the only one, then!

Some cars will turn the lights off for you if you forget, like my father's Caddy. Perhaps the designer takes the presumed owner's age into account.:D

all my other cars automatically turned the headlights off. that is weird about the eos. i understand it has that annoying ding but if it is loud outside or you get out quickly, you tend not to notice the ding

You might need to leave the sidelights on

There could be occasions that require your full sidelights on (rather than one side or the other).

I just discovered tonight that since changing my DRLs to be the fog lights, now when I leave the switch on in the fog position and turn the car off, ALL the lights DO turn off when the car is turned off. "Acidentally" solved my own problem!
