Hi Guys/Girls

Just thought I would post my audio install which was done over a year ago, however since then I have made a few changes but neverless I thought I would post the Pics. I will post newer pictures once I have taken then with the new Stuff.

First of all was to remove the passanger door trim to see whats inside.

here is a pic of the CDT Audio ES-03 - 3" Wide range midrange driver

Next was to insert the midrange driver into the door. with custom wood fiting to hold speaker.

All speakers was removed includeing wood fitting and now its time to Dynamat the car doors.

Once thats done, it was time to put the speakers back in includeing wood fitings.

Now for the CDT Audio EuroSport ES-Gold ES62i to be placed in the door.

Now this is the overal result for the doors.

However I have upgraded alot of the audio equipment with the following stuff.

CDT Audio ES-06+ - CDT Audio 6.5" Ultra Extended Sub-bass woofer

CDT Audio ES300CC Transient Optimized 4/5th order Mid EQ 3-way xover

CDT Audio DRT-26SATModular Tweeters

However I dont have the pics for these, however I will post pics of the Amps and the headunit etc etc. later on.

Cheers

Very informative post - thanks :) Could you give details of the large speaker in the bottom of the door, as I would quite like to change mine (I don't have your technical skills, so I'm not doing any more than that ;) ) Is it 165mm diameter and is there enough space to fit a standard 'deep' speaker, rather than one of the slimline ones? Also, are the connectors & wiring in the Eos' door standard, or will I need to fit new ones?

TIA :)

The Overall Diameter is 170mm the inner Diameter was around 149mm so it required a slight mod with a thin piece of wood to make an outer template to allow the speakers to screw in. Also the speaker is around 8 cm deep which fitted in fine with a few tweaks.

I did not use the existing speaker wires, I used all new speaker wire as I'm running amps from the rear of the car, and the existing speaker wires will not handle the load from the amps. However you can use the original speakers wires from the car you just need to cut the ends off and rewire to new speaker, however don’t expect to run amps from the original wire as it will burn out, but if you’re just using the existing head unit you will be fine. Also I’m going to keep the ends so if I ever sell the car I can put all of the original sound system back in the car.

Cheers

P.S on the weekend going to upload new photos of my head unit and amps :)

when you remove the door trim, the windows don't get any error?i heard that they will not close correctly if you do that.
Door trim removed and put back on with any errors or problems. Also window closes fine. However Window never fully goes down to mike likeing, the window rim just sits above the chrome trim, but I have had that problem from day one. I have taken to VW 3 times, but that say it’s like that. I have seen other Eos with the same problem! :(

Having the top of the window glass rest permanently above the door trim when fully opened was a safety design rule implemented in most countries in the late 1970's.

The purpose was to stop drivers/passengers letting their elbows protrude outside the vehicle for extended periods of time. It was common practice for drivers to rest their elbow permanently on the door whilst keeping their hand on the wheel. Kids in the back seat thought it was sooo grown-up to put their elbows outside just like the adults. There were regular instances of mutilated arms from passing traffic/contact with roadside objects.

If you ever have the opportunity to sit in a classic car with window glass that rests below the door frame; try resting your arm on the door while holding the steering wheel - it is surprisingly comfortable :) .

Its so obvious when you think about it. May not be aesthetically pleasing but it does help with safer driving habits. Thanks for the information.

Thanks silvershadow, why couldn't a VW Salesman tell me that. I just thought it was an Issue with the Eos.

Thanks for the info on the speakers :)

Interesting post about the windows. I didn't realise it was (yet another!) health & safety thing.

I've noticed on my Eos that if I press the driver's side window switch (as opposed to the 4-window switch) again once the window has 'stuck' 99% of the way down, it will actually drop down another 5mm.

Once the top is down, I just press the 4 window switch again and the windows lower the additional 5mm as you said.

great pics and info, it'll be a godo read for those who wanna go this route :D

btw, is it difficult to remove the door panels and the rest to fit the stuff in? Seems like alot of work :D
The door panels was easy, it was the rear panels that was hard, overall it was about 2 days work. Never the less it was worth the time and effort to get the job done right.

Unless you're talking about something else or windows in other countries operate differently, I don't understand this post. When I lower my US Eos windows with the "quick-down" button, about maybe a bit less that 1/2 inch of window sticks up. If I then "tweak" the window button a quick tap, the window totally retracts into the door or is at least flush with the top of the door.

It would appear that you have to remove part of the grab handle from each door inner to undo some screws before the door inner comes off (as well as undoing the torx screws from the bottom).

Where do you start as far as splitting the grab handle, and once all of the screws are out, do you lift the door inner up, out, forward or backwards to remove it?

Thanx
