Hi everyone i ordered my eos back in november and was happy enough paying £25,998 then i get a email the other day off http://www.mammothcars.com

and i thought i'd have a look round and see if i could get my car the same price it turned out to be £3000 cheaper than im paying for it! i know you can say it was online so i decided to ring my other local VW garage and got a quote for the exact came car and he came up with £24,300! so as you can imagine i am not happy with VW Wigan so i've rang them up and the sales manager and the guy who sold me the car want to see me on friday. I dont think its fair that at one dealership they sell it for one price and at another they sell it for a totally different price. Is this allowed? :(

Agreed it's not fair but it is allowed. It's a simple case of buyer beware. Hopefully your dealer will sweeten your deal a little but I doubt if it will be anywhere near the 3k difference.
Best of luck Stephb

if you don't mind travelling try

take the price list to the dealer and say you will cancel the deal (and loose £250) and go elsewhere if they don't make you a decent offer. If you arn't too bothered on spec you may get one sooner (and cheaper) elsewhere.
Cheers, David

Whether or not it seems fair is not necessarily the issue. As you said youwere happy with the price at the time you placed your order. When you are buying anything it helps to compare prices at more than one place. When you placed your order, pricing or what kind deals that were available at the time compared with deals currently could be radically different. After the beginning of the new year dealers may be willing to take more loss to drum up business as the economy after Christmas tends to slow somewhat. Internet sites will always try to undersell dealers or to post deals dealers don't want to pay to advertise. Still it is up to the buyer to do the research. The internet can come in handy if you have several dealers trying to outbid the others.

Price fixing is illegal in the UK so dealers can charge whatever they can get away with and whatever the punters will pay them! It's a competitive old world for them so usually they will come down if faced with cheaper prices. However, once the deal is done...

There's nothing to stop you going to them and arguing that they've ripped you off but they might have given you the best deal going at the time you agreed the sale.

Watch out for some internet dealers however, who can't necessarily deliver what they offer.

I echo what others have said.

The advertised price always includes a negotiable margin - even on new cars. The negotiations are typically driven by demand of the car and a buyers willingness to walk away if the deal isn't good enough.

Some people pay the asking price - others hold out for a good deal.

I am with Davidp, as a fan of www.mycarquotes.co.uk take a print to your friday meeting and be tough but fair, give them a chance to sweeten the deal but as you say you can cancel at a cost to you of £250 and the recent price increase, which you should have been protected against ref statement in price list p15. I am surprised that you have no info on build as yet as mine was ordered in mid Dec and has been built and is awaiting shipment to UK.
I wish you luck.

Im going in tomorrow and having it out with them. its their choice really as my brother in law works for tote sport who has a contract with VW Wigan for atleast 50 cars per year and as he is a manager at tote he is quite happy to cancel the contract with them, they also get a car on the forecourt that they cant sell or they can match the price and make me happy :)

its a choice of either losing £2-£3k or £250 i know which one i'd rather lose

I'll update you when i have some news thanks for the support :)

Glad you got things worked out. If your dealer was as bad as you thought, he would have not adjusted price. He would have kept your deposit and let you walk. He also threw in what sounds like scheduled maintanences for three years which could be worth several hundred pounds. Now you can concentrate on enjoying your new Eos when it arrives.

Steph, now try and forget the incident but keep ringing the manager and asking exactly where your car is - he will know!!! And just say your so excited and looking forward to it's arrival - make a real big deal about it and make him your friend. That way he will be pleased to get you off his back - don't forget to ask him to 'make sure my free sample of Krytox' is in the car when it arrives!!

Got a good deal now, well done!

Unfortunately, it is a common occurance, as each garage can charge what they want for the cars, and the amount of negotiable room varies between garages and staff, and sometime on the ability of the customer to negotiate a satisfactory deal.

A few years ago when I was looking for a golf, one garage gave me a good discount without me having to push them very far, and I really had to work hard to get a better discount at a different dealer. As it was, I went with the garage that was easier for me to get to.
Guess in someways its similar to a charter holiday flight - pretty much no-one on the plane will have paid the same as the next person, as different agents, times booked etc will get different deals!

Well done you have extracted a cracking deal! Your dream car with imminent delivery and 3yrs free sevicing, do you have to use Wigan if you have another prefered local dealer? Who you build a relationship with is your choice. Good luck and enjoy
