What a disaster!

Was so excited about getting our EOS... our pride and Joy on Saturday.:(

Then disaster struck..... we pulled into a lay-by (wrong one - no entry) and then smashed into a barrier across the windscreen and supporting bars either side.

Waiting for the car to be collected .... don't know if they will be able to fix it.

We are devastated!

Does anyone know if these structures can be replaced?

They should be fixable... They aren't part of the roof mechanism, just standard A Pillars.... Do get it repaied at VW though... Insist with the insurer that it must be VW repaired, then you get issues with roof/warranty!

Sorrry to hear your news though :(

As a matter of fact, it may not be repairable. Depends on the extent of the damage.
I saw photos on VwVortex wheher a tree fell across the windshield (windscreen), damaging the A-Pillars. The insurance company concluded the Eos could not be repaired. A search in their forum will reveal the thread and photos.
The A-Pillars are made of reinforced metal and is part of the roll over protection system engineered by VW. In the tree case, that feature may have saved the driver's life.
Good luck and can you post photos of the damage?

Being repaired

Just to let you know that our car is being repaired. :) The insurance company have approved the work so the parts have been ordered. It should be ready for the 20th November. Not entirely sure what they are replacing... I know it is definately the windscreen.

At least things are moving forward.... feeling slightly better today though.

Glad you getting sorted but, sorry badders, I have to ask. What sort of lay-by has a barrier across it anyway and how come you drove into it the wrong way? As you say the main thing is neither of you was hurt (apart from the pride that is).

Ok you are over the initial shock of it all now, your insurance company do not appear to be dragging their heels, 20th November, not bad.
At least you are both ok. A barrier over a layby entrance or exit, and no warning, sounds like a ridiculously dangerous thing!!!!!

How devastating but the main thing is you are both ok. What is a lay-by? I'm sure we have them (mayvbe??) but probably call them something totally different down-under.
By now I'm hoping the car's been repaired & you're now enjoying the EDA's;)

Hi dolcevita, a lay-by is a bit like your picnic area's beside the road where you can pull off of the main road for a rest, only ours are about half the size, usually unscreened, inconvenient, dirty and quite dangerous with the other cars belting past too close for comfort! Not to be used unless really necessary!!!
