took the car in today to have convenience settings changed ( see thread on accessing menus) turns out this can no longer be done by the user as we are 'too dumb' to understand the instructions (still available if you have sat nav cos if you can understand that your obviously a clever sod)
also asked for all updates to DSG to be done and to 'turn on the cruise i fitted
dealer got me to sign a warranty form( so they can claim off VW) all was well and i watched the technician alter stuff with the computer as he wanted to know what options i needed
total time 10 mins cos he didnt know what he was doing ie turning on cruise took about 10 secs when he found the correct menu
anyway all was fine and i returned to the showroom and waited for the keys
then told there was a minimum charge of £42 plus VAT to use the computer!!!
i refused on the spot saying i was not paying for 10 secs worth of time!
told it was standard charge and any customer wanting to change the settings now had to pay it despite my argument that the manual says it can be done by the user
then followed 15 mins of arguing with the manager before leaving after being told i would be let off this time but will have to pay in future
RIP OFF or what?

Sorry to hear about your problem with the dealer. He should have told you upfront about any charges. Turning on the cruise and any changes to the menu options would not be considered a warranty item and they can charge you for that at whatever their labor rates are. If there were factory service updates for the DSG, they should cover that.

I think it depends on the dealer, my dealer the workshop forman came out with a laptop pluged in adjusted some settings and said thats it, i said how much and they said No Charge. I got the lads in the workshop a bag full of chocie bics to have with thier cupper . works a treat.
