This happens on mine as well. It also appears for some reason that more water collects on the drivers side (left hand drive) of mine than on the passenger side. That's just judging the amount of splash I get after a rain storm when I open one door then go around and open the other.

if this is left for a long time could it give rust problems later in its life? It does it on my Eos as well

This does not need to be done after each washing. The recommendations that I've seen, and that I've followed for my Eos, are once every 6 months.
I was recommended once after every third or fourth wash. There are also a pack of wipes that my dealer sells at £5 a box (I think three wipes per box).

Although lubing up won't stop the water from collecting, it's just the way the sills are that makes the water collect. I've learned to just step away from the car when opening the door after a shower. Ho hum, it's a little niggle on an otherwise good car so I'm willing to put up with it!

Afraid of the roof

I really (REALLY!!) like the look and feel of the EOS, but like the previous Scottish poster, I live in a rainy climate (West - Wet Coast of Canada) and not having the benefit of a garage or carport at home, the car would be subject to some 200 days of rain a year. The posts I have read at this and other sites talking about water leaks is real concern not to mention the enormously complex series of moving parts making up the roof mechanism. I would like to hear the reassuring noises from those in similar climes who have had no or little problems in this regard.

Otherwise, I may have to to with the new Honda Coupe.

Much as I love the Eos (when it's sunny), I wouldn't recommend one unless (a) you have at least one other vehicle for 'everyday' use (b) you live in a reasonably sunny climate.

To put it bluntly, if you're going to be driving the Eos with its roof up most of the time, then you'd be better of in a 'normal' car, which will be cheaper, quieter and more spacious.

Thanks for the quick and direct reply. I am getting the sense that even with hard top convertibles, you have to be comfortable with the leakage issues and the regular seal maintenance regime, especially if you live in wetter climates.

I guess it will be the coupe for practicality and maybe a little roadster for the sun those few days it comes out.

Cheers

Haven't we lost sight of the fact that the Eos can be configured as a coupe [roof up] or roadster [roof down]??

If the roof is given due consideration and preventative maintenance, water leaks will be minimal or non-existent.

My last convertible with a soft-top leaked less than our everyday 2 door Honda hardtop coupe.

The one illustrated would cause real problems with the paintwork as its for soft tops not hard tops like the Eos. It would need to be lined with a soft fleece material at presumably a much higher cost.
However the idea is good but in the case of water in the doors, not sure it would be much good anyway as I'm sure most water gets in via the window seals at the door and this design does not seem to really cover that area of the problem.

water collecting

Hi Graham

Yes it was the "idea/theory" I was trying to show, your comments are very vaild, when you search such products on the web they go from £23, the one shown at £39 ish to well over £100 just for top covers. I used to use one when I had my Morgan, but again as you have pointed out that was also a "soft" top.

This is a known problem to VW and there is now a "freebie" fix where the dealer will place a "drain" in the rear window to stop the water being trapped in the door seals. This is where the water is coming from and "puddling" in the sill area. I'm having mine done soon (Oct 14) and I'll let you know the outcome.
