I just purchased my eos a few weeks ago, and it has been raining quite a bit here unfortunately. One thing I have noticed is as soon as you open the door (in the rain) water will drip directly off of the roof staight down onto the edge of the driver's seat.

It seems that the roof of the car (and the location that the water rolls off of the roof) lines up exactly with the edge of the seat, so this dripping occurence will always happen when it rains. Also, of course since the window opens a small amount when you unlock the door, the water leaks in there as well until you lock everything up again.

Has anyone developed a good work-around to this situation (other than just keeping a towel in the car)?

Thanks,
Shannon

No work around found. I just put up with it as its not a lot of water and it seems to be the price you have to pay when you don't have framed windows.
Since we get a hell of a lot of rain here I got used to it quite quickly. Its annoying but livable with.

Agreed, as a fellow englishman, rain is second nature here and you do get used to it....

Only stupid design issue, is that when the window drops down on unlock, water can drip on the mirror/window switches... That is really lame as it can damage the switches!!!!

Design issue?

Yes, water dripping onto seat - annoying!

Another problem with rain is that after the car has been standing for a while in the rain, it seems to collect along the bottom of the driver's door and then is delivered all over your feet when you open the door! Or is that just me? Obviously I have now learnt and stand to the rear of the door when opening but I did get wet feet the first few times!

Anyone else have the same problem?

:D Yes, I have but only sometimes. I think the water gets past the oval rubber plugs in the bottom of the door. There are drain slots at the bottom edge of the door which will drain the water to the street but depending on the angle of the car as it sits (I think) water might collect on the flat shelf of the door bottom and if it gets past those rubber plugs in the shelf it will collect inside the door jam between the two door seals only to douse your feet when you try to get in. I always planed to duct tape over those plugs to verify this but manage to forget, probably because this problem is very infrequent for me.

Thanks for all the input everyone - don't worry, I'm still a big fan of the car, even with the water issues.

Peter - I have experienced the same issue a few times with the passenger side door only. It is a little unusual, but I figured the rain was just coming in at a particular angle to become lodged in the bottom of the door panel. It was quite the surprise the first time I opened the door though!

I can't say that I've had the wet feet problem on either of our EOS's and we do get quite a bit of rain here in Suffolk.

If you mean wet feet when opening the door from the outside, that is quite normal.. The seal brushes the water off the ledge when you open it!!!!

Had wet feet a few times!!
One of the great things about this site is the reassurance that you are not alone! Well, thanks all for the confirmation that wet feet is an ownership hazard of the Eos.

Still love the car to bits...

Artful, don't look at this as a hazard - it's part of the ownership club!!!

Steph, you seem to be one of the lucky ones. It seems that most Eos have the water retension problem in one of their doors. Mine is at the drivers side, passenger side is fine.
As for slippers I thought all women kept them in the car to drive in anyway or at least a pair of flat shoes? LOL

when I collected my Eos, the sales rep showed me all of the features of the car and also told me some things to be carefuly of.

One of those things was that the car was "designed" to route water into the lower door section and that if it had been raining for a while that you should be careful where you put your feet when opening the door.

He also said that the windows drop down when opening the door because the seals "hermetically" seal the car. Hahaha, I've never heard such dross! They drop so they clear the seals around the roof frame!

The first thing he said here is possibly right. The second however is dross!

He is correct. There are slots at the bottom very edge of the door panel (all car have these). These slots are on the outside of any door seal. Water getting to these slots should simply drain to the street at any time.

However I think we're talking about more then a few drops here. In my case it was like a pint or two in the passenger door jam that actually stayed there 2 days after a rain storm!

My theory: If the water does not make it to these drain slots but rather collects on the bottom flat portion of the door shelf (for whatever reason, angle of car) it might get past the oval shaped rubber plugs in this shelf and collect in the door jam between the two door seals only to dump on your feet when the door opens. This is not normal and could cause problems in freezing temperatures. I believe it is these oval shaped plugs (there are two, one toward the front and one toward the rear of the door) that is letting the water pass because after the second time a few pints of water poured out after opening the door I looked around for a cause. I pulled one of these plugs out and a bit more water came out. I think better fitting plugs (or duct tape) would solve this problem.

I'm interested to see whether mine will do this. Mine is reversed onto my drive, which slopes down, so the nose is pointing upwards. When my wife had a Vectra, it used to do exactly this. Wet feet when you opened the doors after heavy rain. Our Accord doesn't do it at all however.

Mine does it on my driveway (downward slope) as well as on level ground so I don't think it makes any difference.

Cheers
