I have been told by my VW dealer that I should expect 1 or 2 drops of water at the back of the car by the windows, when the car is sat in the rain. Is this what others have been told?

Did anyone ever ask about leaks in the roof before buying their Eos and were you adviced to expect a 'drop or 2'?

I look forward to your replies.

Mine does not leak at all. There are several reasons a top can leak, there are many threads on this forum and vwvortex.com vw eos forum you can look at for the procedure a individual or vw dealer can follow to find and fix leaks

Keeping the seals in good conditon with a lubricant called Dupont Krytox is a key, you can search for Krytox and find lots of posts about where to get it and what to do with it.

Also there are drain tubes to funnel water that collects in the side tracks down the front pillars and down the back of the top. If those drains are blocked or were not done right at the factory the water in the tracks can not go where it is supposed to and this may cause water to enter into the passenger compartment or trunk.

Waer, water everywhere in my EoS

My Eos is 4.5 years old and water has started coming into the car. It is with VW at the moment and I am just waiting to be told how much it is going to cost me to put new seals in. Very disappointed about this - never expected a VW car to have such poor quality seals. I never thought about checking this out as have driven VW's for a long time with no problems. Any ideas from anyone as to how to deal with VW's attitude please?

Cost for new seals at VW main dealer

My wife's 2007 EOS goes in to VW dealer for rear seals replacement at a cost of about £2000! Had front & drivers door seals replaced in August for about £500! Will be investing in Krytox soon after. We love the car, but the creaks & leaks spoil the fun.

I feel your pain

My 2008 Lux has been at the dealer three times now for leaks (despite my having maintained all of the seals meticulously). Last year they found a zip tie had torn and pulled out an end of one of the drain tubes, causing the floors to fill with water under the carpets. Early this month the car was filling with water again. This time they found A-pillar drains clogged and backing up, rear window seals separating, and two or three other points through which water was entering the passenger compartment and trunk. They resealed everything and a month later it was leaking again. It went back to the dealer and they fixed it and then steam-cleaned the carpets (at VW's expense) only to have the car start leaking again. VW has picked up all of the labor charges for these repairs even though the car (with 28,000 miles) is no longer under warranty. The local dealership has told me candidly that they're seeing many of these pre-2009 Eos models with rampant water issues though VW corporate has denied this. They've taken so much of my car apart so many times that I'm surprised they haven't had parts leftover. I expect they'll finally get these water issues resolved. But I'm selling this car at the earliest opportunity.

just to add my experience, mine recently developed a leak in the boot for which the dealer couldn't find the cause, said they had checked the drains etc.

Solution was to replace all boot and roof seals at a cost of £1300, not worth it on an 07 car IMHO so I traded it in.

My husband has owned a 2003 Lexus SC430 hardtop convertible (since 2003) without one single leak or problem with the top! The car has 165,000 miles on it. I hate to think of VW as building a car with lesser-quality :(

Had the roof and boot seals replaced at 2 years old due to a puddle in the boot (right under the roof pump, where else). I was told the seals were hard despite me doing the krytox shuffle every six months. the new seals cured the leak and the seals now stay soft (with krytox) and the only water that gets in is when the windows drop. Shame about that as it spoils a terrific car but I can live with it.

I've just noticed water coming in the A posts, but I also just got the 2008 in October, so I haven't had it that long. At least I live in a fairly dry climate.
That might just be the A pillar drains blocked or have become disconnected from the tubes.. Mick

Roof Seals

Finally got my EoS back today - too upset to actually write down how much it cost - but have been advised to sell it as soon as possible! Guarantee is for 2 years - but have to treat the seals every 3 months at a cost of £40.00 for the lubricant. Very disappointed as I did not expect this from VW. It seems that VW cannot guarantee that their cars are waterproof! So, it will have to go as I need a reliable car.::mad:

Hi Anjudki you will find that a bottle of Krytox will last for a lot more than just one application, and you will only have to apply it about twice a year to keep your seals supple. Could you tell us a bit more about your EOS is it pre 2009 and what did the dealer do to your car to stop the leaks. Mick

Water Leaks

Hi Mick - thank you for your reply. My EoS was registerd in May 2008. VW totally stripped the car and dried it out. The water was everywhere - including the fuse boxes and the heated rear window was also replaced. I have a long list of everything that was replaced. I had no choice but to get the seals replaced as I could not use it or sell it - Catch 22 situation. The loss in value is quite shocking - but to replace it is also a hassle I do not need. If I keep the car then VW will treat the seals at service and inbetween I have to do it myself. Hassle, hassle and more grief.

Blimey! you have had everything done now why don't you keep it as it should be all a ok now. I never needed to Krytox the seals between services (could be due to the crap summers we had and the seals never dried out). Mick

Had my car from new 2007, and it was perfect until last autumn. I had the seals krytoxed at every service. When I first got the leak in the boot I krytoxed the boot seals and it seemed to be ok for a while but then it returned. With cars that are out of warranty VW seeem to take the view that all seals must be replaced, whereas I would have started by replacing the boot seal only, but a piecemeal approach was too much hassle for me so decided it was time to let it go.

leaks in my eos

I recently purchased a 2008 Eos from a private seller. Everything is fine, except that recently I noticed some water coming in not where the roof meets the front windshield, but right above that, in a spot that does not move. It is along where there is a seal. When I brought it to my dealer, he said it would cost $900 to replace it. Since I don't have $900, I am trying to see how I can fix this myself. When it rained last time, I duct taped a small towel to the pillar to prevent the rain from getting me wet.
I am reading some of you refer to the A Post or A Pillar. I can't seem to find what that is, but I am wondering if that is the same spot where mine is leaking. Mine leaks on both the driver and the passenger side.
I am also reading alot about Krytox. I am wondering if it will help since my car has already developed these leaks.
Any information you can pass along would be much appreciated.
Thank you
