Hello all.

Just put a deposit on an 2006 Eos and wondered if anybody knows anything about it. It's HPI clear (did my own search just in case) It's a Shadow Blue TDI Sport reg CY56AHV but it's been on a private plate. Originally sourced from Listers in Wrexam but has been living in Telford. We're buying from a non franchised dealer they appear very very good no mucking about and all the cars there look genuine (whatever that means). We have to wait until DVLA have sorted the plate out and the dealer is going to tidy up a couple of scuffs on the wheels, so it's going to be another week or so before we can pick it up.

The car looks very good, I spent a good long while with it and had a long test drive and it drove just like the new ones at my local dealer. Slightly damp smell in the boot, but i almost expected that and I'm going to get a gallon of Krytox. It still has 7 months VW warranty on it so I'm hoping that will cover anything expensive.

I didn't bother with an independent inspection as I had one done the last time I bought a car (FIAT COUPE) and they missed loads and had a legal exclusion for anything they did find.

My only concern is that the previous owner only bought it in Jan 09. The dealer says he wanted a classic camper that came up and sold it finance it.

Always loved VW, I had a Passat years ago, a type 2 surf bus (5 years), a Type 4 Carravelle (5 years) and a new Beetle (2 years) a while back and was very pleased with all of them (except dealer service and oil consumption on the Beetle).

Hope this is the begining of a long and happy relationship.

Yes, I know there a bit iffy but I'm hoping that my local dealer will sort it out on the warrenty if I can't - if there's a problem. I've read a few of your posts and it looks like you've had a bit of a dance with your dealer.

We're trading in a Fiat Coupe Turbo and although ours is a good one, they have such a rep for being trouble I've spent most of the last 2 years worrying about it. Lovely to drive if you can ignore the paranoia that comes with it.

Strickly speaking it's my wifes, but I fancy she won't get near it at the w/e's

Nice friendly site.

Maybe you should take it out for another test drive and soak the heck out of it with a hose before signing on the dotted line.

If you're buying from Heritage they were superb in sorting out my little leak last month. You're in safe hands!!!

Ahh - just noticed you're not. Even so - they'll be more than happy to sort any warranty work for you.

That'll cost you more than the car itself...!

Think I'd stick to the small bottle from the dealer (even that will set you back about £35!)
Sorry bad attempt at being funny, you're not to know how I research everything to death and how tight I am.

Not very good with these smiley things but I think this:rolleyes: means sarcastic, I'll use it all the time:rolleyes:

I see a gap in the market buying in bulk and selling it for a huge profit in small bottles, oh no VW have already done it.

See:D

Which one do you use?

I had a test drive at Heritage Bristol and they were very good and followed up but would not budge on price. Understandable as the car sold 3 days later as they predicted.

We had a new new shape beetle a few years ago and the service it recieved at Heritage was poor. But things change.

If it leaks I'll take it over and watch through the service window.

I bought my EOS from Heritage Bristol - had nothing but good experiences with them. I've been back a few times over the last couple of years, a couple of warranty claims and a small leak. They did keep my car for 3 weeks to fix the leak, but I had a daily call from them telling me what they were up to.

I must admit I'd driven Fords beforehand so maybe I had lower expectations.

Did you check out the boot completely - lifting lining etc. just to make sure you have nothing nasty growing in damp there? Do make sure you really check that out and get something in writing if possible regarding it for future reference, just in case. Also check out the carpet/mats in the car too. I'm sure it will all be fine but better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks for the advice - I had a realy good look in the boot, took everything out and there was no evidence of ingress or clean up. So it might be damp or simply an over active imagination mixed with a sensitive nose.

We are still waiting for DVLA to sort out removing the private plate but have been assured that it's 'in the post' 3 days ago so I can only assume the postman got lost.

I googled the reg plate and it turns out that it was sold by Listers VW of Evesham in Jan 09. I emailed Listers and got a reply and have since spoken to the sales manager (very nice and helpful chap) and he told me the car was given the full multipoint, autoglym used car cover assured dealer thing. So in essence I have saved a fortune and bought a good one with only 1k extra miles since the dealer had it.:D

He also said it had been recalled and all the roof seals had been done. So hopefully we won't suffer the problems some others have.

We also managed to sell our Fiat Coupe so didn't need to take the very low trade in value. We are down to 1 car until DVLA sort it out.

Can't wait to pick her up I'm tired of looking out of the window at the sunshine.

I suppose my wife will want to drive it, seeing as it's hers;)
