When I had my R32 I only put V-Power (used to be Optimax) 98 RON. Does anyone use this or does it have no effect in the EOS. It used to give the R32 an extra 5HP.

I am getting a 2.0T FSi Individual on Saturday .

When I first got the Eos I only used standard unleaded. Then I discovered this forum and noted that I should have been using high octane fuel. On changing to Shell V-power the power delivery is certainly smoother and, I think, slightly better mpg.

Stick with the v-power it is the food of the gods.

Coming from a thirsty R32 the MPG does not worry me much. I also have a fuel card and all my business mileage paid for so I think I will stick with V Power.

Thanks

Only 97 octane as long as it's available. Occasionally the station only has 95 so if I must have petrol I just put £10 in and go elsewhere where they have 97.

Actually most people would not notice any difference in their performance with only 95 but VW say for best performance use 97 when it's available. Think the only real difference would be right at the top end.

Here in the U.S. I was told that at my altitude, 4000 feet above sea level, I should use regular unleaded, but that when I am below 2000 feet, I should switch to premeium. I just got back from a great trip to the west coast (2000 miles +) and following those guidelines, all went well, I did not notice any change in performance. I did find that running with the top down, my MPG dropped from 26-30 (top up) to around 22. Of course going west, we dropped 4000 feet in 850 miles and gained 4000 coming back.

I don't see much difference in my 2.0T-FSI, but the quality of the petrol is MUCH more important...

ESSO and SHELL are the best brews for the car (or any car) im my opinion... I put normal ESSO in most fill ups, but then I will put in V-Power from time to time... I think I will put some in this afternoon...

I wouldn't use any other make of petrol... Don't want my engine poisoned!

I wonder if ESSO Super Unleaded is similar to V-Power... WIll have to look into that one!!

I always use V-Power when I am near a Shell garage when I need to fill up. Otherwise, I use whatever Super Unleaded is available.

I always use Vpower or super unleaded. My mk V GTi specified that anyway and I figure this engine deserves the same. As I've not used anything else, I can't compare but I like to think I'm being kind

Here's the score as I have been led to believe it direct from the horse.....

The ECU on our cars are intelligent 'learning' ECU's. This means that they will tune to whatever component is put into the system. E.g. if you were to change the air filter to a performance one, it would take a good few miles before the increase in power were to peak and stabilise.

The same can be said for changing the fuel grade. If you start to use Super Unleaded (I have been using 99-octane) you will notice a slight difference straight away but it will probably take a couple of tankfuls before you see the significant difference.

This is exactly what I used to find on the two TT's and Leon Cupra R that I had. After a few tankfuls of Super / Optimax / Ultimate the change in power and delivery were awsome. I would advise anyone that's considering trying a higher rated fuel to try it for at least two tankfuls, otherwise it wouldn't be a fair test.

Just my two penneth.

The EOS will be my 4th car with the 2.0 TFSI engine. Ive had to use various grades of petrol due to availability, what I am certain about is that with 97 and above the engine is a lot smoother. I notice it in low gears and pulling away from a standing start.

Is ESSO super just as good as V-Power (Optimax)?

I hope it is, as it has really good cleaning and protective agents in it, I only like to use ESSO, I will use the Shell V-Power from time to time though...

Agreed - this is my second 2.0TFSi, and now a total of 85k miles between the two - in all that I've only used [by choice - a few emergency tanks of other stuff on occasion] V-Power or Ultimate and I can tell the difference. Its smoother, kicks out more power and definitely a few more mpg. And of course it [should be] better for the engine in the very long term

OK.... Just to throw a spanner in the works.... I don't like the V-Power so much.... Having used it, my engine seems to run smoother if I go back to my faithful ESSO!

So.... It's now ESSO Super Unleaded for my 2.0 T-FSI!

I'll let you know how it goes.. Only on second tank of it!

I wonder how the Eos would behave with a drop of our Shell 100 Octane with 5% Ethanol mix thats readily available here in Sydney?

Its sold as "V-Power - Racing".

Oh my... I feel bad now! Since I have had my EOS I have only used standard unleaded... I have been bad, and have just seen the error of my ways - V Power (or ESSO Super!) for me now! :(

Adam, If you try both, please let me know how you get on... ESSO Super works much better in mine than Shell V-Power.... I fine with the ESSO Super, I get much faster excelleration and smoother idle than with V-Power!

Also, I want a demo of your NAV system tomorrow!! :)
