Are there any golfers out there with an Eos? If so, have you figured out a way to carry your clubs?

So far I have been putting mine in the back seat, but they rub against the side of the car and make marks. They won't fit in the trunk. I was thinking of taking all the clubs out of the bag and inserting the clubs through the pass thru in the car, then maybe the bag might fit in the trunk. I haven't tried it yet.

Hi Hugh
I have had the same problem ... only solution I havw is to take the woods out, put them on floor in back seat, and put bag in trunk with top up. I usually golf at my home club and leave bag there, so not a big deal, Sorry i haven't come up with a better way!
Cheers!

The pass through is certainly very useful and quite a large hole. I'm not a golfer but I go dinghy sailing most Sundays and have an eight foot long rolled up sail which fits perfectly through the pass through, between the seats and down to the passenger footwell, leaving plenty of room in the trunk for a huge sailing bag and rudder, tiller etc, and I can still get the roof down.
Now if i could just work out where a passenger can sit!

You must be using one big bag Hugh! With the top up I have had no problem getting two sets of clubs and weekend luggage in the boot. I found it is possible to get a single bag in the boot and still get the top down by poking the woods through the 'ski flap' - but I did have to ferret around in the back of the garage to find an old golf bag that was slightly shorter than the one I currently use. To be honest the hassle wasn't really worth it cause I dont live too far from my course. Perhaps VW will introduce a tailor made item.

Easy golf bag travel solution....

Hey fellow golfers. The wife and I went to south GA a couple of weekends ago to Jekyll Island and decided to bring the Eos for an EDA. We had two suitcases, two golf bags, and a beer cooler (essential).

Knowing to watch carefully, I took out the cover inside the trunk and used the socket adaptor from my socket set and used it to keep the sensor button in. the socket adapter snapped in easily and wouldn't come out unless you wanted it to.

Yes, I know you have to watch what is in your trunk etc, but I was willing to try for a few days.

Anyhow, we put a full size suitcase in the trunk, packed our beach towels next to it and loaded up the sides with trip junk (where it says don't put stuff of course). We then were able to fit two packed golf bags with woods on top. they stretched the entire length of the trunk and fit no problem.

We put the other suitcase and cooler in the back seat.

Once we were at our destination the car was unpacked, but the golf clubs had to be moved to the back seat (or use the pass through for the woods) to use the top (of course). But they also fit fine in the trunk alone as long as you don't use the top.

I know this may not really solve your problem directly, but it helps when going somewhere loaded down.

When we go to the golf course locally, we just stand up the bags in the back from the floorboards and lean them back on the seats. Top goes down.. no problems.

Hope this helps. It stinks going golfing and not being able to use the top.

Golf Bags

I think the best idea is to tow a small utility trailer with the fancy tow-bar / hitches that people are starting to have installed. Then you can put all the important things for a great EDA into it without fear of having top-restricting items in the boot (trunk).

I'm starting to look at various options now. Mainly because my EDAs are starting to get longer as we (the family) get bored with the stuff locally. Longer trip means more stuff, more stuff means my geometric puzzle mastery gets challenged.

At some point, we will go far enough and stay away long enough that the stuff just won't fit. :)

I just have to find something that doesn't intrude on the looks of the Eos, as it MUST maintain its "eye-candy" status at all times. A long EDA can't reduce the car's appeal...

Perhaps a different hobby?

Sorry that's not helpful is it?

The real puzzle is two golfers going on EDA with two suitcases, a beer cooler and two dogs! But we usually don't travel with the pups.

And no... haven't done that just yet. May have to use the SUV for that. :(

EOSmage,

I just got back from a long EDA. My Brother and I left Edmonton, drove top down to Jasper... started to rain... drove top up to Vancouver. Picked up my Sister in White Rock then the three of us drove down to San Diego. We packed light enough (collapasble duffle bags) that all 3 bags fit in the trunk with some jackets, etc. but still were able to have the top down most of the way down and back as weather permitted. Actually we never got any rain, but we did have to have the top up during some cooler evenings along the coast and during some 40 degree heat while driving inland. No golf clubs were taken though. I like the idea of a trailer as long as you say it doesn't take away from the great looks of the car.

Trailer

I have my eye on a particular trailer design... I think the hook-up arm is long enough that the roof will still be able to operate with the trailer connected, but I've yet to see one in person. I also have to find a hitch to attach to the car that doesn't ruin the look of the back bumper when the trailer isn't connected.

This is the trailer that I'm considering, and it comes in many colors (black included) so it will match the car. I believe it is a painted product, so I can keep it nicely polished and I like the rock guard on the front.

I'm trying to get in touch with the manufacturer, and will post more details when I have them.

I am able to fit my golf bag in by placing the top in first from the trunk with the "pass-thru" open to the back seat. Its a perfecty snug fit for one set of clubs. I am also able to open the top with the clubs in place, must close the top for access to the clubs however. I have also noticed that there is no more sound level with the "pass-thru" open...probably due to the powered trunk closure making a very tight seal around the trunk.

As far as I am concerned, this is a great design for a single set of clubs, just tell your partner that you'll meet him/her at the club and watch his/her eyes when you roll up in your top-down EOS...

I am a golfist and carry 2 full sets in the boot with ease. The way I do this is by removing the load cover and placing the clubs across the boot as normal. Now I did suggest removing the load cover like this a while ago to enlarge the load space and make for a more useable shaped boot, and if you wished to use the roof when empty but without the load cover then 2 AAA batteries taped together by the left side micro switch would enable the roof to open as well. However this was as welcome as a fart in a space suit by many Eosers as they complained about the roof getting buckled up when you open the roof with stuff in it. They didn't think you could remove the battery thing when you put a load in and/or remember there is something in the boot. (rant over).
This is just an idea that works for me and some others I know.
Happy golfing

If I were considering a trailer to haul more stuff I would be much more inclined to buy a teardrop trailer.

Little Guy Teardrop Trailer for example.

An extended tongue would still allow for dropping the roof and teardrops are more aerodynamic, and look less ugly than a boxy trailer.

That being said I found the best place for my golfclubs...the lake. Just make sure to remove your Eos keys before depositing your bag there or you are in for a swim.
