WOW.....34 people have read my post...but no one has replied? I guess there isn't anyone that has a remote car starter for their Eos ? Anywhere else I should post this?
Looks like you've answered your own question: no-one has one fitted!

Maybe when Fred re-emerges on to the scene (is he on holiday?) he'll be able to give you some advice since he also lives in Canada where I understand it gets very cold in winter. We have no need of them here and in fact it's illegal to leave your car running with no-one in it!

I think Fred will be off snowmobiling now neh321, he got a new snomo this year I believe, but I'd be suprised if he didn't have an autostart on his cars.
girl125 it might be worth your while sending 'schoolhousefred' a private message. Just find a post by him and click on his name and it will give you the option to send him a private message.

One of our Canadian friends will answer this correctly for you no doubt but isn't is something to do with starting your car from the kitchen and warming it up whilst you're having your cup of hot coffee, so that it's already nice and warm when you get into it when it's 20 degrees below freezing outside?

Doubt you'll ever need one in Victoria...

It's a device to start a car by remote control .... lets you run car remotely so you can warm it up before you decide to brave the cold. Wife had one on her Golf as after market but not totally reliable. VW dealer would not warranty it as well. If interested, see your dealer and get their opinion. If they won't support, avoid it like a barge pole. Hope this helps.

Also, be aware that in the UK it is illegal to use one of these, as it is an offence to leave the vehicle running when not in charge of it.
Insurance companies would also have a problem with the fitting of the remote starter, especially if the vehicle headed off down the road on it's own...

Thanks for the info, I don't think I need to worry about that then. What would be your coldest day in degrees C? I have heard of engine block heaters on cars in Canada whereby in the garage the car is connected to an electricty outlet to operate a heater to keep the oil in the engine block from heating. Is this true?

Coldest day here is probably -20 celsius, but in the Prairies take off another 15 degrees at least. Most North American cars are retro fitted but European cars just are not set up for it. Yes, some people have block heaters to make starting easier ... keeps the oil fluid!

I cannot get my head around -20 C, and people live in that! No wander you want to start your cars automatically. Do you have a MFD with an external temp readout, I would like to so a pic of that. Wow! I betcha wont be driving aorund with the roof down at -20 eh!

I spent some days travelling around Finland a few years ago when the temperature got down to -43C. The hotels have a post with a socket against each parking space where you plug in your engine heater to stop the oil from freezing solid. The car did start but you needed both hands to move the gear-lever (into second) so you could move but it was five miles before the oil was liquid enough to move into any other gear! And boy did you need those seat heaters!

Where did Queensland come into the equation?

BTW, agreed, not the same thing as an auto-car starter, it's far better for the car and more environmentally sound...

Ah - you'd need to read the thread started by foxylady "I know it was cold today but..." where Denisewinegoddess mentioned she'd used her heated seats for the first time (in Queensland in the middle of summer!!). That's why I thought it would be nice to have an interior warmer up there on the Tropic of Capricorn whilst she sips her ice-cold beer...

Aaaah, makes more sense now!

We were in Oz last year (Melbourne) visiting family, and my mother-in-laws neighbour was relating a tale of how a friend of his lives in Darwin, and doesn't actually own a coat.. He was coming to Melbourne in winter and had to buy one for the trip(!).

NB, this was the Melbourne winter - as a UK born and bred bloke, I was walking around in a T-shirt commenting on how warm it was while all the natives were shivering with jumpers on!

Skidoo, I cannot believe that we are going to have another 42 C day today and tomorrow. I now reckon an automatic car starter would be most useful now to get the climate control working before getting into the car.
