Skidoo, I cannot believe that we are going to have another 42 C day today and tomorrow. I now reckon an automatic car starter would be most useful now to get the climate control working before getting into the car.
Bril idea Danny, you should think about a patent on that one !

And thats why we need automatic car starters

SKIDOO

You are right, I have attached a photo taken when I arrived home this evening at 6:30 PM. When it is 42 C outside one should be able to start the car 5 minutes before entering to get it nice and cool.

Ianmarc from Adelaide has posted a photo taken today which shows 44 C.

This summer has been too hot, apples are falling off my trees (and some are burnt), camellias are giving up the ghost and the roses are thriving. But then horticulture is outside the scope of this thread.

You can! What you do is go outside, open up, start the car, go back inside, get a beer from the fridge (only 1!), drink it, then go back outside to a nice cool car!

I had a remote car start on my last car, a Toyota Rav 4. It was as an add-on to a Clifford car alarm (viper makes one too).

I used to work in the middle of Derbyshire (in the UK) with a locked compound straight opposite a railtrack from where I worked. At 5 in the morning, on a frosty day, it was a godsend to start the car and let the windows demist and the interior get warm for 5 minutes before I got to it.
Also , it was good to let the car get cooled via the aircon before I got into it on a sunny day.

One added bonus was the day I saw, on my employers cctv, two scrotes/chavs/scum (delete as appropriate) looking round the car obviously checking it out. I remote started it and they ran off, obviously thinking someone was inside (heavily tinted windows helped!).

I'm thinking of getting it installed again, mainly due to the excessive condensation I get on a cold morning. I hear it's not easy to install on a VW though.

Swordfish, not to dissapoint you but I think its actually illegel to have them in the U.K. anyway !

Illegal to use them, not to have them. Also only illegal to remote start on a public road I believe.
I used to love mine on the RAV. Made me feel like I had KITT from Knightrider. I never had the Hasselhoff hair though, I'm pleased to say.:D

Swordfish is absolutely correct - not illegal to have one at all. In fact, some BMW's have pre-warmers built in from the factory!

I think the idea that it's illegal actually may come from the fact that it's illegal to leave a car unattended with the engine running on a public highway. But a pre-warmer isn't the engine!

By the way, did I just read right, that you're comparing a Rav with a Corvette?????!!!!!!! ;)

Heeeyyyy, before you start, what's that picture in your avatar? Traitor.

It was always funny watching someone stood by your car and then remote starting it. The look of puzzlement on their faces. I just needed an alarm like on Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights (English comedy show-thought I'd better explain as this is the canadian thread).

I had one installed about 1 1/2 moths ago and i am very happy with it! I did go with a Viper not the bottom of the line one it works from 1500 ft away. Always works never had an issue. They set it up so you need to unlock the doors with the viper remote EVEN if the car is unlocked...that way the only person who can get in and drive is the person with the remote. It does not void the warranty, yes i checked.

I also asked for the SmartTop and they talked me out of it. The guy was going to buy an Eos and had several convertibles, he said i can sell it to you and make more money BUT get just the remote and use it for the A/C to cool the car down before you put the top down...and I quote " the damm top goes down in 25 seconds are you in that much of a hurry!!" gotta give it to him he has a point!
