In Britain at the moment there are many convertibles out on the market ranging from different prices. I would like to know why some current Eos or possible Eos owners would say i should go for the Eos over any other. I would be paying £20000 for it from new.

Cheers

Hi Eos?
I spent a lot of time pondering the same thing.
My underpinning reasons for going the Eos were;
-Excellent reviews
-Quality build testimonies from reviewers
-Excellent brand lineage & representation
-Good after sales + support from VW
-It suited my needs - I have no family, just me + girlfriend.
-Outstanding resale value after 3 year period
-Good options for setup - Diesel, Petrol, DSG, Manual + engine sizes + very well equipped + high level of finish in cabin

I would not have considered the lesser Astra Twin Top, or the supposedly step up- Volvo C70.
TwinTop is inferior in performance, build quality & I would suggest after sales service & support in Australia anyway, leaves much to be desired.
I did consider the C70, but reviews weren't glowingly positive about performance (unless you go straight for the T5 Turbo, which adds more $$ straight away) , body rigidity, resale value & the fact that it seems so damn ugly at the front! Love the side & rear view...just cant get past the front ugliness :(

I also considered the Audi A4 Cabriolet.
Not bad resale values, paying a premium for 1.8L turbo engine with cloth top. Circa $80K+AU for new. After sales support & service seems good, insurance rates are high. Reviews I read seem good, but no more.

Also considered the Saab line up. Very poor resale values + not brilliant reviews particularly about structural rigidity, after sales service weren't good either. Good pricing though I have to say.

Ive come from owning BMW's for the last 12-15 + years & finding the right vehicle was really important for me...I am not a motoring guru, nor could I tinker with a car engine & pretend I knew what the heck I was doing. But I do like my cars & need it to be "just right".

Budget is something I obviously took into account, & whilst the Eos is not the cheapest of its kind, it offers other aspects you will benefit from - as Ive mentioned above.
If budget wasn't an issue for something around this area? BMW 335i Hard Top Convertible.

Do I have reservations about placing the order? No. I'm happy with it.:)

Hope this helps you some?
All the best,
David

I considered all the alternatives and read all the reports but what I was really looking for was a convertable Golf GTi. This is not an option that VW offer at present and the nearest alternative was the Eos.
I totally agree with DaveyW on its plus points and sure everyone who owns one would agree. I would like to add that the interior and instrument lighting at night is gorgeous (just one more point in its favour).

get the Eos

Every review in every car magazine placed the Eos head and shoulders above all other contenders. If they had a star rating the Eos got 4 or 5 whilst the maximum any of the others (Megane, Peugeot, Volvo C70, Astra) got was 3.

It's built better and handles much better than all the others; it's a proper 4-seater where the others are more 2+2; mine has a Golf GTI engine, which is generally acknowledged as one of the world's best engines; the resale value will be miles better than all the opposition; the Eos's appearance is also much better than all the others with their bloated rear-ends!

For me it was a simple no-brainer, and I don't regret it for a single minute!

I suppose it depends if your buying with your head or your heart. If your asking question, looking at reviews, joining forums to help you decide then it would seem your not particularly passionate about any certain car. Therfor the Eos make good sense for all the reasons already mentioned in the thread so far. Its sensible, practical, well screwed together, and will give you a good chop in value in 3 years. However you said your spending £20000 new? That wont buy you alot of Eos???? I dont think they even do one for that price do they, unless its the Fred Flintstone model.

For me I'm well happy with it, although for the same money I would have bought the new Alfa Spyder Q4, but we've just had a baby, so the Eos it was. I know the Alfa will be worthe £3.67 in 5 years time but when you look at it, you fall in love with its lines and shapes. Someone with passion designed it, you can just stand there and look at it as an nice object, regardless that its a car. It would squeek, rattle and fall apart after 1 year but in my book it ticks all the more inportant boxes, style, passion, pressence.

Anyway, in 3 years i'll chop the Eos, get a 3 year old Alfa and still have some change no doubt!

Everything DaveyW and jamesybody said plus it's just a great looking piece of machinery. And I'd love to know what you would be getting for £20K and where you would be getting it !

Davey, my sister had the BMW Hardtop Convert. your talking about for 6 months, it spent more time back at the dealers than it did at her house. When one problem was solved another one appeared. Eventually she told them she didn't want it and got a full refund. She went back to a Merc SLK again!

Cheers for all the responses they have been really helpful. Ahh how much have you all paid, in Great British pounds, for your eos? Im just going by the brochure price, it looks like id have to fork out around £23 grand for the 2.0 engine. How much did your eos cost? Did any of you take it on finance or buy it out right?

Once again, thanks for the responses, they've made me pretty sure that the Eos is the car i want.

Eos?

Cheapest Eos listed is the 1.6 FSI at £19722, which is before o.t.r. costs and any extras (doubt if anyone has ever ordered an Eos with NO extras?!) which will add another min £1000, probably more like £2000 so unless there's a reasonable discount you can't get a (new) Eos for £20K.

O dear...boooooo...went back to the Merc stable eh?:(
(Have to say I adore the SL500 Mercedes hard top convertible - sensational )
What a pity, they have such a great mechanical track record, after sales support and service was really good for the Beemers...

Is that huge grin still on your chops Gary - from the pic you posted? Probably not Im guessing - car looks brill!

Cheers & all the best,
David

Woahhh...u spent 25k on a second hand eos? The brochure price says they go from £19800. But i thought realistically it would be around 24 grand for a half decent one. When did you buy yours mate?
The brochure price doesn't include any of the upgrades, such as metalic paint, Leather, 18" wheels, dual climate, etc...

I paid a little over the base cost of a brand new 2.0T Sport. But instead of waiting at least 3 months and paying more for the extras, I was driving the car of my dreams within 6 days of paying the deposit. Yeah, it had 3000 miles on the clock, but that sort of thing doesn't bother me in the slightest.

BEST. CAR. EVER.

I see your point. What options did you get for that money and how did you manage to get a 6% discount. Did you get it from a VW dealer on finance? Just looked at that option on their website and its not too expensive per month for some of the models.

Possible a good angle for the negotiating side is if you are a Corporate customer.
eg: If your employed by a Co that already has VWs in their fleet, be they privately owned or corporately owned no matter.
Theres normally a form VW dealers has that you can take to your employer that states you have x No of vehicles corporately etc etc.
I got a very nice discount of the RRP when I did this (my girlfriend bought her 2nd Golf from the same dealer so I got a further discount for my Eos too).
All up my discount was circa 13%! Seriously.

There are ways & means & the other thing to say about the haggling process... do it at month end. I did...more importantly, most likely their financial Year End too! (30 June.)
The dealers-any dealers- want the sales No's up on the board for month end reporting. Thats when they are at their most vulnerable.
If you're going to get a price break - seal the deal just before the end of the month - even if the dealer has strong demand for stock - they always move a little at month end.

Try getting a price for a model specd how you like at month end-pressing for a discount - if they know you are committed...the discount usually gets better.

All the best,
David
