Whilst i love the fact that you can have the sunroof open when the boot is full or you've just not sure what the weather's going to do the pop up wind deflector is a must. The problem is though after a few miles it's got hundreds of flies. What's the best way of cleaning this without damaging the mesh?

As usual the handbook does the typical "using a suitable soft brush type line" which is great but what and where from!!!

Handy hint from the land where insects haven't learnt to keep away from cars yet :D

Warning Do this in a well-ventilated open space as the fumes from the ammonia can be very strong.

Add 1 or 2 tablespoons of cloudy ammonia [should be in the cleaning products section of a large supermarket] to your normal bucket of carwash detergent and water, wet the insect remains with a wet sponge and let soak for a minute or two until the hard deposits soften. Remove with a barely damp sponge - repeat the procedure if some particularly hard deposits remain.

Also works a treat to remove insects from the front air intake and radiator core using a trigger pack spray to apply and a hose to wash down afterwards. Another alternative is to buy commercial truck wash detergent, break down the concentrate 1 part concentrate with 4 parts water, spray on with a trigger pack spray, let soak for 5/10 minutes and hose off.

If you have problems with "fogging" on the inside of the windows caused by the plasticisers in the plastic trim components if you leave the car with all windows closed outside on a hot day; wipe the window glass with a solution of 1 part washing up detergent, 1 part cloudy ammonia and 4 parts water on a wet but not dripping sponge until the solution "wets" all surfaces of the glass without beading then wipe off with a barely damp chamois rinsing the chamois regularly.

Did some searching and can't seem to find a post or answer. The other day I pushed my front deflector down and it made a strange crunch sound in the middle where the button is. Now it won't open. Anyone have a drawing or know how to remove it to inspect and figure out what's going on? Sunroof open without it is terrible unless I roll the rear windows down a bit.

Thanks

I'm lucky I have an air line and just blow the dead bugs back the way they came in. :)

As for the latch mechanism, it's built like a nasty cheap plastic toy and probably costs a 1000 times more. :( It's the kind of thing they put on kitchen unit doors - bistable, push once to grab & push again to release.

From what I remember there's just a spring wire and the rest is shaped plastic. I'm always careful to put my hand over the bar as it comes up. The scissor springs are quite strong and I don't like the force with which the bar can come up. If the screen is up, I usually push it back manually before closing the roof. This puts less strain on the moonroof motor and octopus cables. :)

A 1 inch/ 25 cm paint brush does the trick. Take with the rubber stoppers they are easily detached and lost.
