Hi,

I have a new 09 Eos and I was wondering if others have seen this before and what what the fix was.

After the top goes up, the windows go up. The rear right passenger window goes up, almost completely, and then comes back down about half way.

It does not do it all the time and it only happens when the top goes up.

I did a visual inspection with the service manager and we did not see anything wrong with the widow, seals or track.

The service manager thinks it might be a bad sensor. I was asked to keep an eye on it until the Eos service tech gets back.

Thanks,
SC

That is the safety mechanism, the window stopped before gitting the top (like soneone putting their hand between it and the top, so it opens again for safety...)

There are two reasons for this:

1) The window is not correctly adjusted
2) The seals are unlubricated and stiff, causing too much resistence when the window hits them

Try and lubricate the seals with Krytox, stick your finger RIGHT in where the glass goes... If that doesn't work initially, open the roof and put the windows up, does that "bad" window sit too high? Does it look much higher than the other?

Steph,

Thanks for the advice. Part of me wants to leave well enough alone and part of me wants my new car fixed. I will see if clean/Krytox-ing the trim works before the more invasive repairs.

SiJ2000,

Thanks!

I will recheck the window trim/seals and I will try cleaning and lubricating the seals.

I did not consider the window might be sitting too high. I will have to check the position too.

If it is a resistence or position issue, I would think the window would do the same thing even when the roof is up and not just when the roof is raised.

My 06 tdi did similar when shutting the passnger door too hard. Try this: open roof and put windows fully up. Look along the line of the top of the windows - the contour from rear to front side. My passenger window was too high by ~ 4mm causing it to shut too hard onto the seal, thus the 'computer' sensed a trapment and lowered the window half way. The window has adjustments via holes in the bottom of the door. Mine was done under warranty.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Steph! I think the dealer will only make it worse. Mine has done that time to time, but goes away as fast as it came. Try reseting the windows with the key in the drivers door lock. It will resync all the windows.

hjg,

Thanks. I did check this and everything looks even. Adding a little Krytox to the trim seems to do the trick!

Lopaka,

Thanks! I tried that but adding a little krytox to the seals seems to do the trick!

Window problem

I had to call VW Roadside Assitance to my '58 Eos out on Monday (31.8.09) as the window on my drivers side door insisted on returning to the half open position after I had locked the car using the key fob. I managed to close it using the key in the door method but not before I had summoned help! The guy who came hooked up his laptop and did a diagnostic check which revealed a faulty ignition! He reckoned this was the cause? My car is with VW today having a new Ignition fitted - under warranty - fingers crossed. Will update you asap!!:

New ignition?! Blimey

I sometimes wonder if VW even know about these little fixes we all come up with (i.e. lubricating the seals!) Seems to me they would rather spend their time and money on a more difficult diagnosis before trying these cheaper methods! Don't they know we are in a recession?! ;)

Let us know the outcome and if this fixes the problem for you.

SiJ2000 is correct

The cars sit during transport and at dealer lots....the seals are not lubricated since they left the factory....so it is common to find leaks and windows having problems right after taking delivery.
The dealers dont get it...they need to lube the seals of every EOS the moment it hits the lot and hand the new owner a bottle of Krytox with instructions...then 75% of all problems with this fine little car would go away.
