Hi All

In my first post I called the Eos I have ordered my dream Eos, this phrase has set me thinking of what I would build if I had access to the VW group’s parts bin or could pick from different markets option list and colour choices. Here in the UK I suspect some “Head Richard” limits what is available forgetting that in this information age we can all see what the factory can or could built. Just compare the specs for UK, Ireland, Australia and USA; these are the easy ones for English readers to see what is currently built.

Here is my “Dream” UK spec:- Eos sport, Brilliant red, Moon rock and black leather, Diesel 4cyc 170 bhp or 5cyc 230 bhp, 4wd Dsg transmission, Bembro brakes vented all round, seat draws, elec memory, seats, mirrors and steering column, Idrive info system, 17” 5 spoke star wheels. Sports m/f steering wheel from RS4, DAB radio, garage door opener, stainless steel and logo’ed sill plates,

Just an observation when I look at the likes of Audi, BMW and Mercedes who build cars to order, with option lists that say if you can afford it you can have it because we make money! With the positive side effect of a satisfied customer. As this models life expectancy is only to 2010/2012, I don’t expect the situation to change for us here in “Treasure Island” sorry the UK, not so subtle dig at the price variations between the different market places.

So what would you build ??????????

I am fairly happy with my EOS individual but the only things I miss from my previous car (R32) is the four wheel drive and the extra power. So having both these would make my EOS even better. The main issue with 4WD is the lack of boot space though.

I agree with you both 4WD would be my dream option for the Eos as well. I would have liked to have had the option of a DAB radio that would have been something special for me.

think i would settle for VW sticking the stuff on that should be standard on a car of this price like leather, xeons etc

The Golf is NOT a 4WD but an AWD. AWD would be nice on the EOS.

the new golf has 4wd but called four motion i would love 4wd as with front wheel drive you can only chip it to 200bhp without it being dangerous :)

I think ive pretty much got everything i want on my car :)

What's the difference? Unless you're thinking that 4WD only applies to big 4x4's? Or maybe with an AWD all 4 wheels are not permanently driven until some start to lose grip?

In fact I think the 4Motion on a Golf is a compromise anyway in that the front wheels are always driven preferentially and the rear only drive when the front ones can't find traction.

The car may be a bit small for it, but the Audi A8 has a 2.5T available and mix that with 4-motion or the quattro.

Neh, I think the AWD (4-motion) will transfer power to the necessary slipping wheels instead of permenant 4WD with varying slip differential systems (like in trucks or jeeps).

would it be fair to say it is like 4 wheel traction control anyone?

clearly I don't have this on either of my cars so I don't know the proper mechanics; I have just read that it will kick in when making hard turns...

No AWD drive for me. I would prefer the better fuel economy without it. Maybe if I lived in a colder climate. Front wheel drive does the trick for me. I understand there are handling benefits to rear wheel drive or AWD but for my driving habits I wouldn't know the difference.

From the first post do I understand that memory seats are available for the Eos in certain markets? This would be nice feature. I'm usually the only driver in my Eos so is not so critical for me but it did take me a few hours to get my seat back where I like at after the dealer had it for the 10k service. But I can understand the frustration for a multidriver Eos.

I would have ordered HID headlamps if it was an option for 2.0T from VWoA here in the states. I would also have opted for cloth seats instead of leather. I never liked "leather" interiors. Quotes because I understand the only parts of the interior that is actually leather are the seat surfaces.

Hi solarflare
I am sorry to report that Memory seats are not available for the Eos in any market that I am aware of. My original post was a day dream of what parts I would use from the parts bins of VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda to make my perfect Eos in generic terms like 4wd and Bembro brakes, I could have been a lot more specific on technical details but I figured I was writing to a general audience for a bit of thought provoking fun without being a total anorack!

It seem no matter where we live in the world the local area VW product manager cant get it right to meet all our expectations with the options list.
Simple answer is to allow all options/colours in all markets but then all the cars would have to be built to order?

regards Graeme

Generally 4WDs have the ability to equally transfer fixed and equal amounts of torque to front and rear axles (diffs). Depending on where you live the classification may also include a speed transfer case.
My real toy a Land Rover D3 fully optioned for long distance heavy duty off-roading i.e. deserts in Australia.

I would like to have an EOS AWD system for grip on slippery road surfaces.
