I am interested adding a couple of USB ports for charging only. Has anyone done this? I am so tired of replacing the lighter adapters after1-2 months. I want something hardwired. I was thinking of something to replace the existing lighter with. Solutions?

Consider a computer USB hub. However, here is the problem.
Most USB ports cannot handle more than 10 volts input. I think the norm would be around 7.5 volts using a wall wart.
If one could figure out how to limit the input 12 volt automobile power to 5 to 9volts with a voltage regulator, then the USB hub could be hardwired into the vehicle and only a person's imagine would limit where and how it is mounted in the cabin.
I know there are ways to limit the voltage but not sure how to do it. Most others here are smarter than me so hopefully they will chime in.
