I actually did I job on my wife’s EOS that I estimated would take 20 mins and it actually did take 20 mins to do, amazing!

The last time I took the air filter housing off I noticed the rubber bumper stops had just about given up and split, with the ones at the back being in a lot worse condition due to heat

I like to remove the two screws that hold the end of the air filter to the cold air intake as this seems a lot less of faff then trying to remove the spring type clamp. Make sure to stuff a few rags underneath the area where the screws are to stop them dropping onto the under tray

As you can see in the pic’s there are 4 bumper to replace and its just a case of popping the old one out, using a bit of silicone grease on both sides of the new one and pop them back in, replace the air filter etc.
I like to use the grease in the pic as it is almost a paste like consistency so stays in place and is good for brake sliding pins!

Result was the air filter housing no longer tattles at tick over and it feels like a nice snug fit. I got these from ebay , febi part number 47277

pic to follow

I had a similar rattle problem on a later VAG TDi but it was the large topside cover over the oil fill. The press in bushes for it were good, but I discovered it was the top press fit part of the plastic assembly that rattled. I carefully located areas without anything critical behind and fitted 4 self tapping screws to hold it together & no more rattles.
